I was told today I would have to go to another school, they are cutting positions. They have to place me somewhere, but I will have to scramble to get a good teaching position. They couldn't even look me in the face when I was sitting there in the office with them. :-1

Is it from Human Resources running schools instead of the people who worked up through the real function, teaching? Whenever I hear something like this I bristle. Teaching used to be a vocation run by one's peers, not a job.

I'm sorry you've been shuffled chonsi, schooling's one of those few callings that involves you deeply with a whole load of other people. Being torn out from that isn't why you trained and worked all this while.

Well, I hope it works out in your favour in the end.

Might be a blessing for you. If you love where you are then Im sorry. Change can be good though, its usually the fear of the unknown that makes it an anxious experience. They were upset but it was out of their hands. They felt for you and had remorse.

Is this at the end of the school year or now ?

"Downsizing", oh how I used to dread that word! As it was the new catch word (at the time) that I was told to use by my company's H/R VP when I had the unplasant task of letting company personnel go. In some cases, it was more upsetting to me, then the actual person(s) being downsized!

Anyway, chonsi, sorry to hear of your misfortune. Hopefully, when one door closes, another more lucrative door will open for you!!! Here's hoping that you will get a better job, with even better compensation!!! GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you all, I think I am still a little in shock.

Nomad, it will be next school year. I will scramble now to construct a resume-I only have CV's, I am so antiquated in a way. The music department took it hard, I play the piano for them and take the string and flute sections to tutor.

I will go shopping for a new suit tomorrow, so I look as spiffy as I can. Job fairs start in two weeks, so I need to be at both middle and high school ones, to find something as close to home as possible.

I feel it very deeply, as the primary wage earner. The responsibilities at home have my priority, so I will go out looking with a good resume in hand. That is what I shall write all weekend long.

Oh Bunny Girl I am so sorry to hear this. I can't believe the cuts are affecting the schools like that. Good lord that is awful news. It hurts deeply doesn't it.

I think FG should start a commune and we all bring out skills together and find a nice island of our own and sustain ourselves .... :) ok in a perfect world yes.

I have to go looking for a position in my district. One is guarenteed, but it could be anywhere, split between two schools. I will have to actively look for something not too far from home, my district is large, it goes up to the Penn line. I do not want to drive an hour or so a day, so I will have to go out early to start looking, starts April 1.

I think because I taught in two subjects, they downsized each subject area. So I was the easiest to cut, 2 others were also, an ESOL and Language Arts teacher.

Otherwise, I have no idea why they cut my position, and kept the younger ones. It probably is a monetary thing, or I am overqualified.

I do not teach at college this spring, they cut out adjunct positions too. I didn't depend on that salary, it was to help out in the summer months.

It would be nice to have a commune, minks. Share our skills and our laughter, we would have such fun.

I'm sorry to hear about the downsizing at your school. Your positive attitute is probably going to be one of your best assets during this search process. You are fortunate that you are guaranteed another position as it is always easier to find a job when you have a job.,

:wah: I wish! I was in the mood today and then you beat me!

I wouldn't want to start my own school, at my age. I want to retire in 7-8 years, I think that is long enough with extra duties at home.

Don't worry Nomad, I just got back from TKD, and am opening up the links I already saved for teacher resumes and am going to start mine tonight. I am going to look at the ones you suggested also. My friends at school will proofread it for me, so I have a week to have it ready to start on the first job fair.

Awful. Someone as qualified and commited and enthusiastic as you. A great loss for the students and the school. What are they thinking? Bad move on their part. I will be hoping for you that you land a great new position.

Chonsi, I'm so sorry to hear this! For somebody who obviously loves what they are doing and has been settled in a particular environment for some time, so that it is very familiar and comfortable, it must be such a shock! But they always seem to do this, don't they? Part company with the most talented and experienced first, because they cost more than the younger, less experienced ones! I think this is a false economy myself. But then they say they know best!

All the very best, Chonsi, somebody is going to benefit hugely from your talented dedication and expertise ! :-6 :)

I have a meeting next week with a client. It might be a buy in or buy out proposition. If the books are in order and an attorney gives it a green light its an option. Id prefer to build from the ground up myself without that kind of capital right off the bat. I envisioned working from home until I was flush but Im open to possibilities. In the mean time Ive sent so many resumes out and filled in so many applications Im numb.

The replies are scarce. Ive little option now but to rely on myself concerning my future.
