I bought a clock from an antique store yesterday. It's a dark wood box with Roman numeral face. The front panel opens and there's a jewelery box inside. Freakin' cool!
Now I can hide all my expensive jewelery inside the clock and, if I get robbed, no one will know.... oh, damn.
um.
forget it.
it's a cool clock though.
and I don't own any expensive jewelery. Honest.

I hide my valuables in a fake Campbells soup can. Cream of Asparagus.
The bottom unscrews.
They have lettuce security keepers too. Very covert.

Good idea, unless of course they steal the clock. :-2

There was some quotation I came across to the effect of; Everything in your home should either have an immediately apparent use or be something you enjoy looking at.
I've been needing a clock for awhile but didn't take to anything I saw in the stores until now. Glad I waited.
The best way to find little treasures is to go shopping with nothing specific in mind and let discovery guide your hand. My favourite possessions have been things I happened across by chance.

I agree with you there Koan. And the thrift stores always have a great "find". Got my daughter a wicker mirror for $10

Well, the antique clock fits both of those and it's an investment and even more importantly it's "Freakin' cool", so excellent job!

Sounds like a sweet find, Koan.
We were burglarized several years ago at our home. The only thing that was taken at that time was the jewelry box Hubby gave me that Christmas WITH all the jewelry inside. The jewelry had more sentimental value to me than monetary. Never recovered the box or the jewelry. Hubby and I believe to this day that the burglar knew that the jewelry box existed and knew exactly where it was. Word of mouth..because only family members knew about it.
Just a friendly word of warning.

When I first saw this post the only thing I could think of was when my kids were babies and we changed their diapers, there were always little treasures inside:yh_rotfl, meaning poops.:yh_rotfl

My father was a pharmacist, and he had to keep any dangerous drugs in a high security safe. My dad was a bit of a lateral thinker so, except for when he knew when the drugs inspector, or the local police sergeant were due to call to inspect his drugs book, and poisons book and stock, he always kept the dangerous drugs hidden on high shelves behind other ordinary prescription drugs, dotted around the dispensary! If any druggies broke in, they would go straight to the safe, and if they managed to break into that they would find a few packets of aspirin ! :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl
I'm a Saga-lout, growing old disgracefully

What I meant was that some family members who were in our home, and welcomed, innocently discussed our home layout and items in our home to another person who was "unsavory" and this other person used the information to plan and execute a burglary.
Understand?
