Is this the right place for this?

Post by Inkling »

Sorry if someone else has already posted this, but I couldn't spot it anywhere, perhaps it's been eclipsed by Jade Goody.:

A news report on anti-palestinian (anti-arab in general?) customised t-shirts worn by Israeli troops:

news.bbc. co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7960071.stm

One interesting thing is that as far as I can see, this story hasn't come up yet on either al-jazeera or al-arabiyya, I wonder why not? Maybe they are less surprised by it than our media seem to be and so don't consider it as newsworthy?

Oh, and also, the reports coming out from IDF soldiers of events in Gaza:

haaretz. com/hasen/spages/1072040.html

(sorry, you will need to take the spaces out of the urls as apparently I have made 0 posts - not true!)

No, nothing is eclipsed by Jade Goody. It depends what tabloids you read. The sensible one's are not bothered with her.

Well, this is just sick. I think these lines from the BBC report just about sums it up:

"There is... increasing callousness," she said. "There is a perception that the Palestinian is not a person, a human being entitled to basic rights and therefore anything may be done to him."

How about we manufacture some tee-shirts of Jews in the Nazi gas chambers.?

Who ever manufactured these shirts, need tracing and prosecuting but i won't hold my breath waiting for the Israeli government to do it.

For the record Chezz. The opening line of Abbey's thread about Jade dying, stated 'Love her or loathe her'. I was not the only one on that thread to voice my disgust at the media circus and hangers on. You asked on that thread, if it could be stopped. Just because there is one or a few that disagree with you about the girl, you wanted everyone to shut up on the subject.

I then come onto this thread as the Palistine/Irsraeli issue is something i have been debating since the recent attck on Gaza. Due to the posters opening comment that he/she did not know if this was the right place to post the latest issue on Palistine as it could be over-shadowed by Jade Goody, I replied that it depends on what papers you read. That was actually the end of any reference to Jade Goody on this thread and we concentrated on the topic of the thread instead. You now in effect ruin some-one elses thread by posting mush about Jade Goody. You could have made your point exactly by posting your links about her on the thread about her instead of on another posters thread about Palistine.

I think Inkling realised her mistake :-

#2

The actions of the Israeli troops throughout the invasion of Gaza was totally unacceptable and the widespread nature of the abuse can only point to acceptance and support at a higher level.

I agree and the seemingly dis-interest from Israel that the tee-shirts are some-what acceptable is probably typical of their mindset. Even here, they would be banned immediately surely?

Ha, well in general I just wanted to put the links up to bring them to people's attention, however now that you've asked...

The main question that strikes me is - what if Palestinians had been wearing t-shirts like that? I imagine the outcry would have been much greater, and much more widely noticed, which is odd, given that Hamas are so often portrayed as terrorist, violent, barbaric thugs, and the IDF are known as the 'moral' army. This ties in neatly with the second link, about Israeli soldiers' allegations of misconduct in Gaza. What I find rather appalling is that barely 2 months after Israeli groundtroops left Gaza, most of the world has already stopped paying attention. The Palestinians lack the PR that Israel is so good at, and as such these stories gain very little press.

My main point: people should be up in arms about this and they're not! The media is - as ever - very skewed.

For the record, here in britain, our government condemns Israel for the attacks on Gaza unlike the USA who continue to fund them. We have a minority party here called 'The Respect Party' and one of their policies is the condemnation of Israel and the need to recognise hamas as the elected government of Palistine. One very prominent figure in this party, 'George Galloway' very recently was banned from entering Canada to give his speech because he recognises Hamas. In Britain most certainly we do not forget that violence shown by terrorist Israeli's against Palistine and it's innocent civilians.
