Kroft to Obama: Are you punch-drunk?

Post by Clint »

President Barack Obama said he believes the global financial system remains at risk of implosion with the failure of Citigroup or AIG, which could touch off “an even more destructive recession and potentially depression.

His remarks came in a“60 Minutes interview in which he was pressed by Steve Kroft for laughing and chuckling several times while discussing the perilous state of the world’s economy.

“You're sitting here. And you're— you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, ‘I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money—’ How do you deal with— I mean: explain. . . Kroft asked at one point.

“Are you punch-drunk? Kroft said.

“No, no. There's gotta be a little gallows humor to get you through the day, Obama said, with a laugh.

This is begining to scare me!:(

Kroft to Obama: Are you punch-drunk?

Sometimes reporters questions are skewed or come from a perspective of not knowing, not having walked in the shoes hes walking in. Ive laughed at questions that were inappropriate to the reality of the inquiry.

I dont find it odd that Obama has a relaxed personality.

Whats he supposed to be doing, stringing a rosary between his fingers ?

President Barack Obama, Part One - CBS News Video

It doesn't happen until a little over 13 minutes in, but it's worth watching the whole thing.

After watching that if I was in the auto industry I'd be hoarding food. Wow!!

Inappropriate laughter is an indicator for something...:-3

It was Gallows Humour, pure and simple. If Obama hiccups they will say he is not PC for cryin out loud. I thought they made too much out of his Special Olympic comment on Leno's Show.

Hes making himself available to the public as he promised in a way no other president has before him.

Hes not avoiding hard questions, hes not hiding, hes not letting his press secretary take the heat for him. I believe hes appearing in another public forum this evening.

I commend him for his efforts.

I also commend him for being visible however I think he should be sticking to the news media. It is the duty of the press to report on government and it is the duty of elected officials to keep the offices they hold from becoming a part of the entertainment industry. These are serious times and I want my President to be serious about his job. He is the Chief Executive, not the Press Secretary. He has CEO stuff that needs to be done and I don't know how he is finding time to get the job done. Maybe he could spend more time getting his appointments vetted and seated.
