Ive built my website and its ready to go live. My bro in law got busy so I jumped in. Its a bit hackish and rudimentary but that will change as I learn.

Question:

What essential FTP files do I need to transfer to the site ?

In registration it asked for a domain name not associated to my site to attach to my site.

I assume thats for traffic purposes.

Ive no idea what to use ???

Not me, I'm way out of my depth with those.

Some hosts allow FTP access to transfer files onto the host computer. Some hosts don't, they use a control panel instead. The onle essential files to transfer, either way, are the site contents.

"Registration", on a host site, is usually for the client not the domain or the site. Once you, the client, have a hosting agreement you can then add domains and load up the sites contents and your website will then be accessible from their host computers. I've never been asked for a domain name not associated to my site. I've sometimes been asked for an email address not associated with my domain so that if the domain goes dead they can still talk to me. If you add traffic monitoring to your site then that's just a part of your site, it's nothing to do with the host. If you build your site using some online tool then yes, it might ask you for a traffic monitoring URL maybe.

How much are you paying them? What I really wanted to ask is who's the host company and which plan are you using but you seem very wary of giving details like that.

I hit the publish button but theres a 403 error coming up so Im just waiting now.

Im using Go Daddy for the name and WebSiteTonight which is Go Daddy for the site builder and server. I bought economy everything but I did get an SSL cert.

Everything was under 100 for the year.

Had some promo codes that helped.

That's all good.

"Best of all, no HTML or Web Design skills are needed. If you can 'point and click' you can have a custom web site in minutes, not months!"

What you have there is an experience rather like using Word, for example. You can either push lots of buttons until what you have looks interesting or you can read the manual and know what's going on. If it were me I'd read the manual.

What you can't do is ask how because it's unlikely you'll find someone else who's used that WebSiteTonight package. It would be like asking a programmer how to centre text and he'll tell you about adding the font width of each character for the string you're displaying, subtracting the total from the display space width, dividing by two and putting two equal-length fillers to left and right when the answer you need is "position the text cursor inside the line to be centered and click the 'center' button on the second toolbar".

I'm quite sure the help system is extensive and well built. You ought to get great results if you read it. The sample sites are very well laid out.

Public key certificate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia discusses the SSL cert.

"The 403 Forbidden HTTP status code indicates that the client was able to communicate with the server, but the server doesn't let the user access what was requested." - you're getting your username/password wrong at a guess. It won't just go away.
