A Ban is lifted..Hearts are still heavy
My response to watching the ceremony of taking the casket off the plane 'bringing him home' was a lot different then when I read about it .
As long as the immediate family is ok with it I think it's good.
All America should give every for one of the fallen heroes . reading words in a newspaper or hearing some name mentioned on the 6 o clock news does not have the same 'impact' as seeing that flag draped casket . Every family needs to know America grieves with them .

Indeed they do. As also here in the UK, if there must be a war, no matter if we agree with it or not, these men and women who loose their lives should be honoured by us all.

Weather we agree or not with the actions of the 'leaders' , the men and women in uniform deserve all the support and respect their Nation can show. There are people that never give this war in Iraq a second thought ,here in America , when they hear something on the news it doesn't register, maybe a flag draped casket might make them pause for a second and put two words together,, 'war' and ' caskets' .
I have a family member that was more than half way though his second tour in Iraq when a car bomb went off and injured him and 3 of his buddies. They all are well and back on duty now ,but thank goodness they are state side for the rest of their time in uniform. I get a bit upset when a person treats the subject of our military very nonchalant .

I think the ban was put in place to begin with because the polticiansa actually believed in "out of sight-out of mind". How stupid. IMO We Americans have always been aware of the casualties of war and we have been watching the numbers of deaths and injured rise through the years.
It is indeed poignant to watch the flag- draped casket coming home. Another sacrifice. Our hearts have always been watching with reverence.

I think everything should be out in the open, we have always had it that way here.
These are our soldiers that fought in the war, and now they have come home dead.
The media should be there and allowed to televise this.
It's that special.
out of sight, out of mind is not showing Americans what really has taken place.
Families need to know you grieve with and for them.

Life is just to short for drama.

Every person from every country should be allowed to grieve for those who are no longer with us in life, but will definitely be remembered for the sacrifces they made for all of us :-4
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice.

I think the ones that give thier all for their country should be honorerd in a special/different way that isn't ' normal' in our grief for those that are no longeer with us. IMHO

I believe the media should go with the wishes of the family on whether they want it televised or not. Unfortunately, protestors may use the occassion to get their point across.
