Post by Chezzie »

Well, yes, in a way you can fall in love with someone you've never seen. What you fall in love with is your idea of that person. Unfortunately we all too often do that to people we meet face to face as well. That is why we find the "love hurts" -- because we don't love the person as they really are, but how we want them to be.

You can't always trust people you meet online and it's better to be safe than sorry. There are a lot of lonely, manipulative, predators on the internet world who can be anyone they choose to be. Keep one step ahead of them and save yourself some heartache.:D

What is love? I'd argue that what you describe is obsession.

Virtual love? Sounds thoroughly dodgy to me...

We have had Oscar and they were very manipulative. Unfortunately they tell the ladies what they want to hear, usually prey on women who are having a rough time with RL problems. Build them up with compliments and before they know it their having cyber sex, phone sex and think they are in love.. Big shame.

By the way, I'm not speaking on my own experience, i'm happily married, just on what I have been told. Also not all manipulative predators are men, a forum I was on, we had a woman who damn near went through every male member and split up a couple of marriages while she had her fun.

NOOOOOOO.....As Mrs. K said, We fall in love with their words?:-6 Yes, we can do that.

I think that we become infatuated with members in FG because of their loving or humerous ways. How can you truly fall in love with someone unless you've spent lots of time with them and weathered all the pitfalls of relationships?

It's a nice thought being able to get to know people through forums without the pre-judgment of physical appearances, getting to the "inner"before the outer!

I don't think so.... You can't really love someone until you see if you have chemistry in person and deal with each other day to day. But that's just my opinion.....:)

but getting back to the topic:

I think people get confused with 'falling in love' and 'Love'. I don't think you can "love" someone over the internet but you can "fall in love" with a personae

To answer the question of the thread .... Yes.

I have a friend who did just that, and she moved her self to his country and lived happily ever after... And they make the lovliest pair.

Well, just goes to show you never can tell.

Still wonder if it could really be called "love" when it was just an internet connection....? "Attraction" yes, but "love"?

As Howard Jones once lamented"what is la ar ar ar ar ar ve anyway, does anybody love anybody anyway wao wao"

There is something special about connecting with another on an emotional level,my pondering is, if its possible to "fall in love"online is it possible to fall in love with a person of the same sex , not knowing the sex of the person they have connected with, is it possible to fall in love without knowing the sex of another?

After all it then comes down to a meeting of minds,do we fall in love with the sex or the soul ?

But Odie with words on a screen you class me as a friend without meeting me?

Some people I'm friends with online say im more of a friend to them than their RL friends so why can that not generate to feelings between a man and a woman or indeed same sex relationships.

Their is a stigma attached to dating people you meet online but their are plenty of relationships that come out of online dating and go from strength to strength. Personally I feel its ok if you meet online on a dating site or on a forum ect as its no different to a blind date as long as you meet up and end up having a "normal" relationship including courtship and physical interaction, its all gets skewered when these "cyber" relationships never meet up and its all conducted online....they are the ones to be wary of!

That has nothing to do with meeting friends on-line and becoming good friends.

Your not falling in love with them, making plans to meet that person, then that never happens, or actually meeting with them and disappointment and grief then arrive.......I know one girl who did this.......she had the shock of her life......

Now I have heard of just a few that lived happily ever after......but not many.

Dating sites are fine..........you know what your up against.

You have their photo, and all info is provided about them, a good dating site is very thorough.....as my friend was on one........and you need to provide info you cannot possible imagine.......and this info is checked out before you are approved.

well said Jupiter. But wouldn't that all be sorted out by talking to that person? I mean if someone told me they were a male and then I found out that person was female I'd be a little upset with the lie. Especially if one thought they were being connected in some way . Then it's not even a friendship but a ruse.

You know the old saying, "actons speak louder than words"

Tough to show actions when you are online. Of course there is the web cam thing but that is barely enough.

I say you have to use your brain a whole lot more than just your words when you form relations online. You have to be more guarded with your heart. Online is pretty one dimensional but it can be a pretty good base to a relationship but there still has to be the physical.

And yes there is always the chance of disappointment, but there is also a chance of true love.

How much you want to risk is very individual.

Love is magic, who is to say where it can be found and felt?

If for a moment in life one feels love, with no rules, restrictions, or prejudice, isn’t better that having no love at all?

Even if it is within a thought of what or who someone may be??

yes i also agree...love is what? different to thoes who experience a strong reaction to the verbal which is the opposite of love at first sight,i personally have strong attractions to people who turn my mind on, i've

had the physical and have had some awesome times with men i've been attracted to but have to say the mind is far more of a turn on than the outer, thats where the real person exists, self expression in the written is more of a give away to the real person than any other way, people can fall for an awesome mind which is what you get with the unseen if the parties are truthful,i believe one can judge.how many of us have made bad choices based of physical attraction!
