As I get older I start to see bits of my parents (gasp say it's not so) in my personality. I thought it would be fun to see what traits our parents passed on to us.

What trait are you happy you got from your parent? or parents?

What trait are you unhappy you got from your parent or parents?

What trait do you wish they could have passed on and did not?

I am happy I got my gentleness from my mother.

I am unhappy I got my temper from my father.

I wish I could have more patience from my mother.

My mother was very organized and that helps me quite a bit in my work. She was also very creative, being an elementary school teacher, and that too helps me on the job.:D

It's very strange....sometimes when I look in the mirror...I see my Mum. obviously there are similarities in 'looks' amongst families....but it's quite spooky. When people used to say " you look like your mum" I used to cringe, but as I've got older, I am proud.....she was a strong willed, loyal person...not always very loving or demonstrative, but we all knew she loved us.

What have I inherited from her ???

Good dress sense

Love of nature and gardening/gardens

Appreciation of good food

Keeping up 'standards' eg. everyone sits at the table for meals

Keeping a tight rein on finances (I'm not as good as she was...sorry mum)

Belief that you have to EARN what you get in lifeFrom my Dad ?

Sense of humour

Some non female skills....carpentry, bricklaying

Generosity

Smoking.....wish I hadn'tAn observation...in the last few months my 37 year old daughter, Sarah, has introduced me to Buddhism. The more time I spend with her, the more I talk like her, act like her and think like her (wish i could look like her..she's beautiful) Bit of reversal of the norm. I think.

This has been a thought provoking thread...thanks for posting it.

I have my mother's skill of organization, and I look exactly like my great-grandmother. I hope I take after her, she lived until she was 97!

From my father, I learned about church/community services, going into teaching, and his common sense attitude.

Intellect, appearance, compassion.

Some genetic defects, predisposition to addiction... (BOO!)

Their ability to sing.I spent the first 30-ish years of my life thinking their artistic gifts had skipped me entirely... as it turns out... I just needed to find my "thing." My parents both paint, draw, sing, etc. My kids too! I thought I'd been skipped.

But my "thing" is creativeness in writing you wouldn't know it by my posts... ;) and webdesign.

Ahhh writing, most theraputic, I loved it when I did it, but the drive to do so again seems lost. I at on time had 50+ pen pals, and wrote stories. all for myself mind you.

I get my wild side from my mom, and I look just like her.

I get my disorganization from my dad, and my argumentativeness.

My temper comes from one grandpa and my red hair comes from the other grandpa.
