Weather he makes it Voluntary or Complulsary...... It's a damn good idea. Just a shame he didn't tag some national service on the end.

I think the bonus would be with parents you are too selfish or bone idle to get their youngsters involved in an activity leaving them to wander the streets. Some of the kids may actually ejoy what they are doing. Also it could cut down on vandalism. They are less likely to smash something up if they've spent months building it. Working in charity shops etc will teach the vital people skills that their teachers are too gormless to recognise themselves.

Perhaps some of these parents would benefit from such a scheme, let alone the kids

My bro has a 5 yr old son and him and his wife work long hours yet 'Henry's' rota is carried out with military prescision. Who' picking him up from where, where he's due to be next etc. He has piono lessons, horse riding lessons. Choir practice, swimming etc the list is endless. His parents are always tired due to work but they rcognise it's vital for him to have outside interests and oc course, he interacts with other children and people.

So many kids just don't have the. OK Henr'ys lucky that is dad ihas made his money, even so, there is alot of organisation goes into. The parents have to be driven as well.

It's a pity the media can't be bothered reporting stories where kids do things that don't involve gangs or knives-doesn't make good copy though does it.

The uplifting truth about Britain’s youth - Home News, UK - The Independent

Only 9 per cent of adults believe young people make a positive contribution to their local communities, while nearly two-thirds believe young people are less prepared for the world of work than they were 10 years ago, according to research obtained by The Independent on Sunday. The survey, commissioned by the Prince's Trust, found widespread fear and dislike of young people among 2,488 adults across the UK. The majority had unfounded fears about levels of youth violence, crime and unemployment, fears that prompt one in 10 adults to cross the road to avoid young people.

The future is theirs though isn't it and one day you will be expecting them to keep paying taxes to support you in your dotage and man the old folks homes filled with the baby boom generation who brought all these feckless layabouts in to the world who just have kids and live off state benefits. It's your generations' fault oscar you made a real mess of things didn't you? you've no one alse to blame.

Good grief don't tell me you support some wishy washy liberal idea about community involvement? What happened to lock them all up and bring back corporal punishment?

I

An oxymoron without the oxy-an idiot savant without the savant. Having oscar stalk him has probably driven him mad. :sneaky: I did say lock them up but this article says nothing about young criminals working in community support.

Yes, if they are convicted of a serious crime then lock them up. As you said yourself, not all kids are bad but they suffer through lazy complacent parents who don't get them involved in anything.

If Brown includes the 50 hours community service as part of a school curiculum for all kids, i see then benifting from it. I do not agree with young persistent criminals being given community service. The two are very different.

Too bad he didn't set an example of personal integrity and self less service for the good of the community-lie to get people to go to war refuse to take any responsibility when you totally **** things up. He and his fellow MP's have got their snouts firmly in the trough and have the nerve to preach to other about having a sense of responsibility to society. have you ever thought of the legacy the kids of today will have to deal with? Global warming scarce resources, famine widespread food shortages all of which could have been avoided.

Being scots we wont be having this foisted on us thank goodness-we have-as i am sure you know -a seperate education system although he might need the votes of scots labour MP's to get it through assuming there are any left after the next election of course. Ironic isn't it, he will be imposing legislation that won;t affect his own constituents.

It would be integrated into moves to make everyone stay in education or training until the age of 18 by 2011.

What a stupid idea-if someone wants to leave school and get a job why on earth not let them. Not everybody wants to be an academic.
