Stuck in the middle

Post by mikeinie »

Today was interesting. I am in Hungary on business and it so happened that today in this country a new Prime Minster was appointed to replace the out going Prime Minister who resigned.

There was a huge demonstration outside the parliament buildings which is just down the road from the office. As these things often do, it became somewhat out of hand and the riot police were called in to break it up.

On the street of our office, many protesters were corralled and there become a stand off. The police on one side, the rioters on the other, and me stuck in the office right in between.

At one point I got fed up and decided to head out of the office into the no mans land, but the smell of pepper spray and filled the lobby and I had to retreat back up to the office. Two hours later I managed to get out and make it back to the hotel.

I think in the end it was all harmless enough.

As the kids say to when I am done in the bathroom ‘it is not the smell so much as it is the burning of the eyes’
