I got into the forum scene at Codejunkies, a videogame site for videogame hackers. it was a fun board, but it eventually self-destructed and the company decided it wasn't worth keeping it running.
So my new found friends migrated to another board called "Duros" run by Belmat. It's a nice little board, and I was a global mod, but I had a problem with the other global mod there and he banned me when I was offline (something MODs NEVER do to each other.) He got banned and I was let back in, but it lost it's charm so I migrated again to a fun little board called
http://www.networkplay.co.uk/
This is my home away from here. There's only about 5 of us and the others are all British guys that are younger than me, so the board gets a little testosterone-prone at times. (Younger guys think about sex all the time) It's run by Ben and myself and we have some very smart posters, but it's nothing on the scale of forum garden.
I got tired of sex topics and sophomoric humor (although it does have it's charms at times) so I surfed around and I think this is the first board I saw that looked promising. I noticed that the topics were intelligent and I liked the power of the software and the server. Fast load times (especially with my T1 line) and that cool "hovering" feature sold me.
I lurked for a few days to size up the political situation on the board, then I dove right in!

I was on another forum along with minks. I quit, she got banned (still laughing about that!) She told me about this place. So my beloved.......(whom I met on that other forum) and myself joined this one. My knight in shining armour rarely posts, though he is usually sitting next to me when I do! (he's kind of shy):-4

Dear Bez,
Or should I address these replies to anyone in particular?????
I joined this group searching for a forum that would answer serious questions without any of the bad mouthing, sarcastic replies and insolent remarks that I received from other "forums" including one who could not answer my question but proceed to tear apart all I had written - parsing, I believe it is called - and told me how to put it all together PROPERLY! He must have plenty of time on his hands.
That was, to be polite I usually put yours sincerely at the of an e-mail (I am old fashioned at 75)
A lady (?) took exception that I had started with "Dear Sir" by telling me that although she knew the answer to my question would not lower herself to answer it - feminine chauvinism carried too far - me thinks?
She has had her effect anyway as now, when writing to any firm or the government - old people are always writing to the governments anyway - I now always start with "Dear Sir or Madam" - Oooops! Should it be "Dear Madam or Sirs"?????
Anyway, that is how I came to be here and so far have nothing but praise for the "FORUM" - gardening or not!
God bless and happy browsing.

Very true Randall, I too found some very nasty people on other forums. They certainly didn't make you feel very welcome and if anything tried to make sure that newbies were made to pack their bags, and get of 'our territory' as one person I met called it.
That's what makes places like FG so great. Full of funny, emotional, caring, and interesting people that actually have an interest in what u have to say.

I'm actually doing a subject called 'Virtual Communities' in my masters course this semester. I've only really been involved with edistribution lists, and the odd software user forum. Never joined a discussion group. So thought it'd be worth a try. Searched around and this place looked grand!!
Has certainly provided me with some great info & first hand experience for my study. But more importantly, I'm having a ball, so I definitely plan to stick around!!
