Grove of Titans

Hangar 51 of the natural world?

The Grove of Titans is a redwood grove located somewhere in northern California, that contains some of the largest redwoods in the world.

The Grove of Titans was discovered to be of significance on May 11, 1998, by Stephen Sillett, and Michael Taylor. The precise location of the grove has not been disclosed to the general public, but we know that it's located somewhere deep within Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park in northern California.

Names of the largest redwoods in this grove include Aldebaran, Del Norte Titan, Eärendil and Elwing Aragorn, El Viejo del Norte, Lost Monarch, Sacajawea, Screaming Titans, and Stalagmight. Lost Monarch is currently considered to be the largest known redwood in the world.

Location, location, location...

We know that the location of the grove is somewhere south of highway 199 in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park near the northern California border.

Author Richard Preston described the location as:

"the bottom of a hidden notch-like valley near a glade."

There are mulitiple sources of moisture and a wide range of exposure to sunlight"

I tried searching the location via satellite using GoogleMap, but... nothing really seems to stand out. Could Google and the US Government be in on the conspiracy? You decide. :sneaky:

What do they think is going to happen, anyway... that somebody is gonna' sneak in there and dig up a 379.1' tall behomoth and transplant it into their own backyard or something? :wah:

That's the general area Bryn.

That's the grove we're lookin' for, Chonsigirl! Where are the trees located at, though? :p

I just saw that some scenes from the Star Wars movies were filmed in the park.

Only place I could see where two valleys met with flats and hummocks.

It doesn't seem likely that anything would stand out on GoogleMap... we're just going to have to go there and look around. :D

I did discover this site that shows a bit more of the grove in panarama.

I would like to pick up a copy of Richard Preston's book on the subject titled The Wild Trees. Richard Preston is also the author of The Hot Zone that was on the New York Times Bestseller list.

I've recently created a website that reveals the location of the Grove of the Titans along with pictures and proof that I've found it.

That is called "eye" language. When you put stuff online recently, it looked like 2 blokes and a sheila found the spot. Was it "we" found? Seems that you got a bit too Wacker. No need to be a Dill over this. Anyhow, got some screen captures of your pages when we first heard from some Crescent City area friends about your escapades in the woods and bright ideas afterwards. Looks like 3 in the group. Are you Tim, David or Charity shown in the original blog layout? Later mate.
