I may have to move!!!

Post by cars »

Today, I was doing regular monthly maintinance on our A/C system. I pulled up on a plug that is supposed to easily pull out. It was stuck & would not come out of a condensation drain pipe! I pulled hard on the plug, & eventually it finally came out, because the sensor on the end of the plug pulled off. I looked into the pipe to see the sensor in the pipe, & to my dismay, I saw the tail of a SNAKE slithering by the sensor!!! That's what made the plug stick, as the plug "hung-up" on the SNAKE!!!! The damn thing had to have crawled in the drain pipe where it exits at the end of the condo structure!

Does anyone know if the condensation system in A/C air handler unit is a "sealed" plumbing line????? I pray that it is, as if it is, I will just leave the plug in the pipe. And deal with the maintinance next season!!!

(I can not, & did not tell my wife about this, cause if she knew, she would have left already & went to a hotel for the night, & then we'd be moving like yesterday!!!)

So I take it that you're less fond of snakes than you are of cars? :wah:

I feel your pain. At work tonight a critter crossed my path twice. It must have weighed 10 pounds and had a long nasty tail. I dont think it was a rat, maybe a muskrat but I was a little jumpy all night. Im not a big critter fan.

It probably wont help but most snakes are harmless and just want to get away from you.

Was it gray with a ratty looking tail? Might have been a possum. Careful around those critters, they have a nasty temper and bite.

Thanks Sunshine, tons of reading, I learned a lot. I have the A/C repair guy coming on Thursday, but it's a long, long time until then. I had trouble trying to go to sleep last night, wondering if that critter could slither out into the house!!! (I've been up well over an hour already! And looking around)

I'm scared to death of snakes. My son has a ball python. His snake before this one got loose. I didn't sleep for 3 nights until one day, it just reappeared. Last summer, I opened my door and there was a snake. My husband was in the middle of a dart tournament. I insisted he come home and get it in between games. Turns out it was a copperhead. Spiders and snakes are the only reasons I dread seeing summer come.

It had almost a platypus tail.

Those possums, pity them, but they are the ugliest things I've ever seen. They are always in my yard.

:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl Cars, you better NEVER tell your wife about the snake:wah:

Geeze, I would have cried or laughed...don't know which.

When I was in Africa, I wanted to have my pic taken on a camel, but since I HAD to wear a DRESS:( there was no way I was getting on a camel with the camel men oggling every female. So, They put a snake around my neck for a pic. My family couldn't believe that I let them do that....and neither do I:wah: I guess I'm a very trusting person:p

but...it was a wee snake....shhhhhh:D There's a pic on my profile album.

Don't worry. It probably just looked bigger than it really is. It's probably only 8 or 9 pounds with really sharp teeth. Try not to be too afraid when it looks at you as if you may be its next meal. I'm sure you won't see it again. :sneaky: Much. :yh_rotfl I hope I have eased your mind and made you feel better.

Ok AMEN, I think!!! I was able to get the A/C guy to come over today, instead of tomorrow. Anyway, he took off the face plate from the A/C unit, & it was void of the critter. I hope! The drain pan was empty, & so was the visible condensation line opening where the float sensor plugs into. The guy flushed out the line with a burst of air, & I watched the exit line outside the house, nothing came out, except water. So I can only hope that the critter did in fact go out the same way it came in!

When I pulled the float plug out of the drain tube, I saw a slithering 1/2" dia "black" SNAKE passing the the opening & going into the unit itself. I'm hoping the clorox I poured into the drain line to eat the alge, made it uncomfortable & made it not want to stay in there! I do so hope it left on it's own accord! I can only assume it did, as I know what I saw, & it wasn't in there today!

My nephew started collecting reptiles (as you do) and ended up becoming a bit of an expert on them. To cut a long story short, he's now the guy airports ring when they sieze snakes and reptiles that have been brought in illegally as they need specialist treatment such as heat and food. He also gets called out when snakes are spotted here. Mostly, they are Adders that have found their way into sheds etc but occassionally he does get a foriegn one that's escaped from a collector.

His house is full of the biggest Boa's and Pythons you've ever seen. trouble is, he is a little careless and has been known to lose Corn snakes, African Tree Frogs and Black widow spiders.

I think they are lovely and i love a cuddle with the Boa's when i go down to see him.

But where is it ??? It has to be somewhere and most likely under your house. I would have the exterminator out to double check under the house. If you lucky it went next door. ;)
