Brown's embarrassing Gurkha defeat - , - Latest news & weather forecasts - MSN News UK I'm glad he lost the vote. It's so hypocritical..... at least the Gurkha's did something for this country unlike the immigrants who arrive here with nothing and claim the moment they arrive.

I think in this case, he under-estimated public support for them.

I would never have believed anyone could be as destructive as Thatcher I think Tony Blair and Gprdon brown have surpassed her.

The thing is though our MP's have stood by and let it happen.

I was going to post on this matter myself.

There's quite an outcry over this decision.

I'm afraid Brown is 'a knob' over most things - possibly a reason why this country is sliding rapidly into the midden.

Certainly not as smarmy and condescending. But equally as dismissive and divisive. I just thank God Prescott has long gone. That man was as incompetent as either Blair or Brown

I suppose we should at least be grateful Brown doesnt have a greedy, grabbing wife of Cherie Blair's calibre

I totally agree, they fought for our country, risked their lives for us, so why can't they stay in this country, they have earned the right to.:)

He's worse in some ways. He hung around waiting his chance to take over like a bit of slime next to a turd.

They've voted a new motion through to let the Ghurkas stay. But how long it will take to go through I don't know.

I don't fully understand the process here. Perhaps our Government think the Ghurkas will get more in benefits if they stay as illegal immigrants like the rest of our illegals.

Excuse my ignorance, but who are the Gurkhas and what were they looking for?

Thanks, I love the power of information on the internet.

Based on this article, why would anyone be opposed to this change, these men fought and died serving the British, and did so very well from the sounds of it.

Your absolutely right mike. Yes it is a remnant of the old Empire but these men walk for miles to volunteer and almost see it as a disgrace not to be selected. It gladdens the heart to see so much support for them, with the exception of those few, politicians who dont really live in the same world as we do. Ive had the pleasure of their company, a long time in the past and they are the most loyal, polite people you cam find.

One thing about these soldiers is that they march at a much quicker pace than the average soldier in normal drill. You have to super fit to keep up

Did anyone see the article yesterday about the Gurkha who is dying? The foriegn office stopped his family from entering the country to visit him in hospital and he's not expected to last. Disgusting treatment.

That is certainly a rumour that survived for years. The Argentinians allegedly took a step back in the Falklands on hearing of the deployment of a Brigade of Gurkhas

Hats off to Joanna Lumley for all her campaigning also.

As I recall being told as a kid by my Dad, the Ghurkas were fierce warriors. They were not afraid to die fighting and were as close to being berserkers in battle as you can get. They were proud of who they were.
