Chrysler's Claiming Bankruptcy
How many billions of our tax dollars did Congress pour into this black hole, ostensibly to prevent bankruptcy? I have to wonder if it was ever about saving the industry at all. :-5:-5:-5

I agree. We lost our large car makers donkeys years ago. We maybe should accept that in the future we will be buying our cars from China. They have the manufacturing might at the moment along with India. We're never gonna be able to compete in that sort of market and we should stick to specialist cars rather than the massed produced.
Did Chrysler lose there way in the market ? A few years ago they got involved in that Far East car company Deawoo to prise them selves into the world market. trouble is they're crap and did nothing for the Chrysler marque

And like hooking up with Fiat, another cr@p car company will make a difference to them. Two bad companies don’t make one good one.

Actually it was GMC not chrysler that took over daewoo and they're actually quite good now-basically vauxhalls, (we've got one and believe me it's better than peugeot or citroen speaking from bitter experience) they used to be vauxhall astra and belmonts with a different badge. That's why you see chevrolet dealers advertising that they service vauxhalls. The only decent chrysler sold here was he PT cruiser and that was made in germany by mercedes.

Your right, sorry my mistake. What about the Crossfire ? A decent enough looking car

Mercedes clk underneath the body
Italy's Fiat will not have to pay anything for its share, which will give it access to the North American marketplace. It will also have the right to appoint three company directors.
In return, Chrysler will be able to take advantage of Fiat's expertise in making smaller, more fuel-efficient cars in its existing US factories.
Fiat showing another company how to make better cars? :yh_rotfl you have to laugh don't you.

Let them declare bankruptcy, reorganize on their own assets, then rebuild on their desire to succeed. This is just like giving a child more candy to keep it form pitching a fit. The child will grow up fat and weak.

Chrysler to file for bankruptcy
AP - The automaker will file for Chapter 11 protection after talks with creditors break down, President Barack Obama says.
Are the creditors the same banks we bailed out?

A lot of people don't know how to care for a vehicle or just take their investment for granted , I feel safe in saying you can point your finger at people in that respect. Another factor is the complexity of the vehicles. The more bells and whistles you have on them the more problems you will have.
I bought my Toyota truck new in 1992, I have always taken care of it and it has never let me down. It has had problems but I fixed them before they became catastrophic, most people do not do that.
I agree. Chrysler has a drive train that is bullet proof. I had a Dodge pickup with a diesel engine that wouldn't quit. They do need to do a better job with what they bolt to the drive train because the quality doesn't match.

I don't know much about Chrysler cars, we have PTs and Crossfires here, but very few people drive them as they are so heavy on petrol. As for this merger between Fiat and Chrysler, well I don't know really.
Its an odd merger decision, Fiat are quite good at making small cars, the Punto and the Fiat 500 being good examples, but the quality record is patchy at best, and their larger cars are not very good. Perhaps its the corporate plan that they like, I don't know.
So its an odd choice for a merger, Fiat are probably the only company that are interested, though I am surprised that one of the Chinese or Korean manufacturers wasn't interested as its a great opportunity to get into the US market.

Have Chrysler really gone bust? Or is this just a ploy in their negotiations with creditors?

Despite the turmoil with Chrysler and GM's looming deadline, Obama urged consumers to keep buying cars.
"If you are considering buying a car, I hope it will be an American car," he said.
Surely that's the problem in the first place, people wouldn't buy American cars because they are rubbish. Fiat make good engines it's usually the rest of the car that falls apart

The advantage may go to Fiat. They will immediately gain an outlet for sales in nearly every city in the USA.

They still have to get people to buy their cars. GMC et al have done this to themselves no one else is to blame. The daft thing is the likes of GMC does quite well in europe-so does ford with market leading cars. Chrysler are a bit of a joke though-they had a buy one get one free offer and they still couldn't shift them.
The oil companies have posted massive profits maybe they should help out the oil industry, if they go for more economical cars it's their sales that will be dropping next thing they will be lobbying for a cap on the maximum miles per gallon to help them out.
