Ever had a ROOT CANAL???

Post by robinseggs »

Stuck this in "chit-chat" because didn't know where else. There's a health forum but its for seniors...move this if necessary....

Anyone ever had a root canal? Here's what happened to me...

Saw dentist because upper left tooth was sensitive. He fixed it. Immediately SAME tooth had different symptom--pain when biting down. Dentist fixed that and I went home and the sensitivity pain came back w/in days!!! UGH!!! Not only that, then my bottom left tooth below it started hurting to bite down. The dentist replace an old filling/fixed it. Then IT was sensitive!!! And now the tooth next to it!!!! Meanwhile dentist sticks a temporary crown on the top tooth and says wait and see if you need a root canal.......Well the temporary stopped the sensitivity but it still hurts to bit down again now on top. I am going nuts!!! Can anyone offer any experience stories? I am so sick of this!! By the way, I even went to a specialist (endodontist) for a second opinion and to no avail....help!!!!! How bad is a root canal if I need one? Never had one...

Get a third opinion. sounds like your dentist is creating more problems than solving.

I've had a root canal with no problem at all. Others I know stayed swollen for days.

Are you using an HMO dentist, or a big corporation? Because they love unnecessary procedures...which is why my mouth has fillings in places where it's technically impossible to get cavaties. GET ANOTHER OPINION. Try going to a little independent dental office...they're much more honest and much more willing to try alternatives. They need to make their PATIENTS happy, not the insurance companies or their huge corporate bosses.

I had a good one and a bad one...nothing major - just some minor pain and swelling...nothing a bag of frozen peas wouldn't fix...also I has one dentist wanting to do one on my child on a baby tooth? Oh hello - we went somewhere else -the doctor pulled the tooth and the abscess went away...Always keep looking if u are in doubt!

Thanks so much everyone....I am just going crazy!! Yes actionfiguresteph, it is a small private office and I have dental insurance, but must pay out of pocket and the BC/BS federal reimburses me some measly amount. This dentist is the nicest man in the world. But you are all saying get a 3rd opinion....and you have helped me to see what I must do. Thanks and I will keep you posted on it!!

I also have had many root canals, without any problems. One time my dentist who is a GOD in my opinion found I had extra roots on several of my teeth which most other dentist would have missed. Once the roots are gone there is no pain every again. ;)

I have many crowns over root canals. Your just need a better dentist. If the tooth is bad they should have done the root canal immediately and been done with it, you can't save a dying tooth.. it dies one root at a time, and remains painful throughout the whole dying process.. All my teeth are capped except the 4 in the top front, and 4 in the front on the bottom. No big deal getting a root canal 2 visit and its done. :D

They don't hurt nearly as bad as the bad tooth. No sweat, just get a good dentist.

Hmmm..there's no pampering around here! I am the "pamperer". I'm MOM!!! So I would come home and still have mounds of laundry, diapers to change and 3 meals to cook for 5 people! (Let's see...that's 35 plates in one day)!!! LOL...Basically I would have to be unconcious or hospitalized to be able to lay still for more than 10 min!! LOL

I've had more than I'd like to admit, including one of my eye teeth. There was enough tooth left over that they didn't have to cap it. That was about 12 years ago and the tooth is getting discolored. I'll have to cap it. The root canal isn't bad, he drills the top, puts a little wire in, then puts in little paper sticks in to dry it out. He injects a rubber filling, Xray, Xray, Xray, cap and done! I only had one that caused pain and it was abcessed coming through my outer gums. The rest was only uncomfortable during the procedure. Don't sweat it if you need one done. (It sounds like you do.) But FIND A BETTER DENTIST to do it. It sounds like you have an idiot on your hands.
