car scrappage scheme breaks down the AA grumpy column

Post by pantoandy »

hello yes its your old pal grumpy back again with yet another rant.

the government launched its latest think tank idea to save the car industry which then broke down minutes after its launch shows that the labour government machine has run out of steam and ideas and should be scrapped along with the scheme.

The Government's "cash for bangers" car scrappage scheme stalled minutes after its fanfare launch yesterday.

Confusion over how VAT is to be applied to the scheme saw Ford, Fiat and Honda delay starting the scheme.

Ford said it was working to resolve "administrative issues" while Honda said its dealers had been told not to register any cars until there was clarity on a number of matters.

Aa president Edmund King said it was ludicrous the hitches had not been solved.

He added: "There is a lot of consumer interest in this scheme and, if this confusion over VAT leads to a lack of sales, the industry will have shot itself in the foot.

The industry later said the problem was just a "glitch".

The Government hopes the £300million scheme, in which drivers trade in cars at least 10 years old for £2,000 towards a new motor, will boost an industry sent into freefall by the recession.

Gordon Brown and Business Secretary Lord Mandelson yesterday visited a Nissan dealer in North London to mark the scheme's start.

Lord Mandelson's department later confirmed that VAT of 15 per cent is added to the price of a car by dealers before the £2,000 reduction.

so there you have it 15% vat is already added to the price of a car which can equate to about £1,500 which makes your car worth £500.

this so called scheme to boost the failing car industry just isnt worth the paper its wrote on so who,s hairbrained idea was this ?

it sounds as if it was dreamed up in the parlimentary bar over a glass of wine after a hard day in the chamber.

isnt also encouraging people to take on around £7,000 worth of debt they cannot afford ?

still what does it matter as long as it looks good on mr browns progress figures

when he goes cap in hand to the people for his job back.

it also goes to prove that gordon brown is desperatly hanging on to his job

refusing to step down and go to the vote because he knows he will lose the vote the election and his job .

still he lost the trust of the british public long ago.
