Google is a search site. The google bots and google spiders go through forums, etc. and it helps when people do a search to better direct them to what they are searching for. At least, this is my understanding of it.

Hi Everyone,

You'll see the google bots show up as: "Google Spider" in the "who's online" listings.

Having a lot of lurkers is very common - and I'm guilty of same for most of my Internet career. I've spent years looking, reading, researching and never made a peep on the online forums.

I'm trying to atone for my sins now though!

Hi Suresh,

And to add on to what Peg posted:

google is: www.google.com It is the most popular search engine in the U.S.

If you go to google.com and type in: forumgarden you get:

3,250 pages for forumgarden

Over time as more pages are created and then get indexed by the search engines, more people will find Forumgarden.

It sounds like you are the one having problems not being "tolerant" of other opinions. I've posted some crazy things here and I appreciate that forumgarden doesn't censor me. Are you suggesting that the forum censor posts that don't agree with your views?

I joined because i wanted to talk to people different from me with different opinions. I took part in another forum that had some amazing discussions but got spolied by the odd individual that took things too personally. It was actually tombstone that lured me with a link in another, UK based forum, that was full of idiots. Most of the posters seem to be well thought out individuals who enjoy talking with others. The ranters and bigots will always be there and can be ignored, they soon get fed up and fade away.

Part of the problem is you do not hear the tone of voice or see the body language so a jocular comment is often taken literally when the intention was humourous. There are cultural differences in humour that lead to misunderstanding as well, especially when people don't read the post properly. I've done that often enough myself. You learn to be careful.

Debate is something you learn by doing and talking to others you don't agree with. Some people come across as being aggressive when they think they are just being assertive. If somebody wants to be insulting well who cares what somebody on the other side of the planet you don't know and doesn't seem to like you anyway has to say.

I suspect a lot of people are just sussing it out to see if it is worthwhile posting or maybe they are just intimidated-computer geeks in the darkness of their rooms lit only by the glow of the computer screen plucking up the courage to speak to the world.

You need to speak to religious zealots else how will they ever find the light? :D :D

(humourous comment, please note the correct spelling of the word humour, I spell, I type it's both together I find difficult)

For JacK Sprat; you have the choice to look or not to "look", if you do not belong, you don't have to..i have felt from your posts that you want what sounds good for you and your individual ideas? i had a feeling you were a school teacher? you seem to have little patience, too strict or controlling...don't worry, just be happy..what is going on here is; active conversation (24)-7.. :driving:

:D

I like the variety - and as I've posted before - I LOVE the diversity of opinion. I especially feel gratified in being able to discuss events and topics with people from different countries. Fascinating. Eye-opening. It's a great asset for my personal development.

Hey! No jokes about stunted development!
