Food bank.

Post by Victoria »

Even in this town of just 125,000 people there is a food bank, they distribute parcels to the poorest families.

Today they had a collection at the local supermarket and it was so easy to give, near the entrance there was a dispaly set up with all the articles they needed you to give rice, longlife milk, macaroni, shampoo, toothpaste, tinned veg ect ect.

You could choose to give as much or as little as you wished the cheapest item was just 39ct the most expensive about 2 euro.

Almost everyone put something in thier basket and handed it to the volunteers after the check out, who pack it into boxes ready to be sent out.

It was nice to see everyone chipping in and helping those of our neighbours who have fallen on hard times lately.:-4

My town is only 20,000+ and we have at least one food bank plus the Salvation Army has one and serves meals most days.

Our boy scouts go door to door collecting food, etc. and sometimes the schools do food collections. I have no problem whatsoever with people going to food banks. My problem is, when they sit in the bar drinking, gambling a few hundred dollars, and tell me what they got at the food bank that day. :-5

My children's school has food drives every month...I always send it something that I'm most likely not going to use in the winter months.
