That stray cat you were feeding? Coyotes eat them, and puppys as well as anything else they can get. Coyotes in or near towns are bad news.

that farrow cat I'm feeding, would outrun a coyote......I have been feeding him for over a year..and I still can't get near him.

-you could tell it was just lost.........

Coyotes have always lived here, in parks and woodland areas of Toronto.......were not just a concrete city.:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

Just be careful when the coyotes are out. And do watch for your outdoor critters.

In L.A. I used to take my daily walk at 5 in the morning, and at certain times of the year, the coyotes would come down out of the hills, looking for food. I carried a big stick around the blocks with me. But the critters that I noticed the most when walking-was when those skunks came out-oh phew, they were stinky.

omg....that is scary Chonsi!

skunks here are so cute, we used to sit out back with a campfire, and they would come in and out of our feet...we knew just to freeze, they never sprayed as they didn't even realize we were there.

You seldom ever see a coyote here, as they are always in woodlands.

this one was weird........he/she would have come at least 3 miles to get to my street...........

That is a long way to go, it must have been very hungry to come down into an urban center like that.

I see lots of critters here-wild bunnies, foxes, even a wild turkey. Haven't seen a deer yet, but they must be around here someplace.

I was thinking it might be hungry.....but why run down the steet in the middle of it?

......mind you, something or someone could have spooked it.

I am just praying no one harmed or killed it......already have 3 new channels tapes for 6pm........just in case..

Oh I would just love to see bunnies!

We also have foxes, but have only had a fast glance at them.

we had 2 ducks last year....just sitting in our yard......we got pics........it was just so cool!

I see a lot of deer, rabbits and racoons and a few coyotes here. Never see the coyotes in the yard but hear them late at night howling and singing in the field. My house is across from a huge field with a distant tree line so I am sure that is where they live. I think the racoons come over to garbage scavange. The deer just like the plant life. I worry about them being hit by cars though.

That's neat. Coyotes are really skittish. They don't attack anything bigger than them unless they are sick. This guy probably lives in a park or a gully. They are known to live in cities sometimes and will mostly scavange stray cats and small dogs. I live in the desert and hear them howl almost every night. They are very cool.

Odie, I think that I would have been terrified and thrilled to see such an animal running down my street. But, the only wild, land animals we have at the beach are seagulls who only poop on your property:wah: Yukky.

We have a wonderful county park just across the bridge from my town. I used to live in this area. Everynight, we'd see rabbits, raccoons and deer walking down the street.

My cousin lives in northwestern Noo Joisey, and he told me that the coyote was reintroduced into the northern part of our state. He lives in an area where deer, bears and coyote live in his backyard practically.

He can't sleep sometimes when he hears the crunching sound of an animal, wondering what tasty snack is being eaten. Even his pet dog won't go out at night when she hears the howling of the coyotes.

Oy vey....I think that I'd rather deal with the seagulls and "bay-gulls"

I wasn't afraid as he certainly wasn't coming my way!

its just the shock...........

I'm thinking now........maybe there is no longer food for them in the parks, and woodlands...........how sad....

Oh what I would give to see deer!

but I couldn't live the way your cousin lives......don't want bears in my backyard.....especially hearing the crunching noise?:-5:-5:-5

We have deer everywhere. People buy fox urine to keep them out of their yards and its unnerving driving in remote areas at night for fear of them jumping out in front of your car. Still I always get a thrill when I see 2 or 3 of them unexpectedly.

I know how frightening they can be especially at night when you can't see them.

My FIL while driving to work on his motorcycle at 4am, just a few years ago.......hit one..........it just darted out.

-the deer had died and luckily my FIL only had a few broken bones.

One November morning his wife was home alone with the kidlets. They heard a large thumping on their door. They looked out another window and saw a bear thumping against their front door trying to get the corn cob decorations off of the top of the door.

They all ran up to the 2nd floor and called the cops. The bear had managed to grab the food and then just quietly sat on their front porch eating the corn. The cops sirens scared him away with cob in hand:yh_rotfl

Guess that's what happens when we take away the animal's habitats. They have nowhere else to go except to our homes sometimes to look for food. Let's keep listening for that knock on our door.

The bears in Alaska are now doing the same, they're are patrol cars out 24/7 looking for bears......not to shoot them, just to distract them away from towns......as yhey are now repeatably breaking into peoples homes and taking their food, and bears are quite dangerous to begin with...........

this again is human error, as we quickly build new buildings, houses, etc...and run the bears away from their natural habitat for food as you said.

The ones that have a penchant for animal cruelty frequently end up being the Dahmers and Rollings.

Rollings decapitated a college girls head and placed it on a bookshelf.

How can that be explained ?

Back on topic...

I went to my friend's house last night, which is kind of remote. We were eating outside on the picnic table when we heard some birds chirping madly. We were wondering why when I looked up. A bobcat was casually strolling by us on the other side of the short chainlink. He glanced at us and walked on by as if he were a housecat! My friends said that he's a frequent visitor and used to them. That was my first time seeing a bobcat outside of a zoo. Very cool. :D

Here in Britain, it is not unusual to see the odd Wallaby galloping around the countryside where they have escaped from zoo's and bred here. There was a lovely story in our press a few days ago of a wallaby caught on camera in a garden in Cornwall with a Joey in her pouch. We also have American Harris Hawks and Parakeets breeding in the wild here as well as scorpians. I think with global warming, we will be seeing all sorts of strange critters surviving in the wild now.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. R.L. Binyon
