I have fantabulous news. at least i think so.

My home town PD has hired me on as a reserve officer.

I start at the ILEA(Iowa Law Enforcement Academy) in November. When the chief retires in December, a spot will open up and I will become Officer Wolverine.

less pay than what i make now, but better hours, less stress and the commute will only be 5 blocks instead of 45 minutes.

thank you, thankyou, thankyou.

i'm not an officer yet. I get fitted for my uniform wednesday. I start field training next monday.

Academy classes start monday November 7. then in january i start in earnest.

nervous. but its a happy kind of nervous, ya know.

My guys at work are excited for me, so now i have to pick and train my replacement.

and yes, MUCH less stress than what i do now. I'll go from 65-70 hours six days a week to 50 or so five days a week.

I was finally able to get my mile and a half time down. have to be able to do it in 12:51 or quicker in my age bracket. Got it down to 12:02:34. hell yeah!

don't worry, i'm a biker in Cop's clothing.

you know for longest time when i first got here i thought you fella was a pilot. the way you talked about the Blue Angels.

even after you posted pics of the group, i still didn't get it. "why are the Blue Angels located in Detroit?"

:o

That's great!! He gets that a lot..."What are you guys, military bikers?" Or more usually, "Are you guys a LEO M/C?" (The "blue" throws 'em off.) It creates much confusion.

I'm looking forward to the horror stories from academy that you & LC swap. Stories of your torture will really brighten up my day! :yh_bigsmi

i just want you to know this is quite rare---------:( AUSTELL, Georgia (AP) -- A trainee at a state law enforcement academy was accidentally shot and killed by her instructor Tuesday during a classroom exercise, authorities said.

The police trainee was among about 30 students in the seventh week of a state-mandated 10-week training course at the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy.

The recruit was not identified pending notification of relatives. Details of the accident also were not released Tuesday night.

Cobb County Police spokesman Dana Pierce said the veteran instructor was "very traumatized" and had to seek medical attention.

The academy is one of 10 regional training centers for law enforcement officers in Georgia.

ok so i'm going to be a reserve. to start. since the Lt. was an instructor at the Academy for 3 years, riding with him will count toward class time.

Last sund was the first day "on the job" spent almost 3 hours just going over the vehicle. Not a whole lot happened. Seat-belt, speeder. Cat stuck on a roof.

my lunch got comped at the Cafe.

around 1830 or 1900 got a call about a bar fight.

Like Floppy said, it was weird being on the other side of one: breaking it up instead of gettin in on it. Hahaha

will he be your FTO? or this was a 'ride-along'? because you are still a civilian i am surprised if he let you put your hands on anybody. it's a liability problem.

LC, I watched a COPS program the other night where a single officer had a man pulled over who got seriously goofy, and was obviously on some sort of dope and outweighed the officer by about 100 pounds. The cop couldn't get him down and 2 civilians passing by saw he was in trouble and helped him get the bozo in cuffs. Would that be a liability problem if the idiot decided to try to sue? You know full well how these criminals are always looking to get a big chunk of change handed to them for one stupid reason or another.

your scenario BR...the civilians in your COPS show are good samaritans. so whatever good samaritan laws apply depends on the state. but in the case of our wolfie being under the color of authority, that is a different matter. ie...say he hurt someone in the bar brawl. he is still a civilian, he has no certification. so the dept. for whom he was an 'agent' is liable for the bar guy getting his neck broken. if it was a ride-along he should never have got out of the car. if he was under supervision of an official FTO he still can not put his hands on someone.

i am an uncertified police officer. passed the academy pretest, i qualified at the academy range, i passed all the PT. As far as the state of Iowa is concerned(for 6months) i am an officer of the law.

My home town has 6 months to get my signed up for the academy. Until then, they get to use me.

no. no. I am NOT a certified officer. I am a RESERVE officer. I am granted all the same powers of arrest as a full-time officer. I have to do 4 weeks of training with either the chief(certified) or the Lt(certified).

I start attending class(bookwork) at the academy in November.

In January, i become a cadette at the academy.

In January, i become a cadette at the academy.you may need to ask some questions. you did not say, are you armed NOW? you have full arrest powers NOW? our reserves have to be certified too. this is beginning to concern me, i am going to ask some questions in iowa....this is not said to offend you, you may really not have the full picture or someone is blowing smoke...this is hard but true...you may be wearing the uniform under some hiring program, but you are still a civilian. and your liability is personal as well as dept.
