I am a almost 60 year old that has just bought the retirement home with the hubby. We are renovating it just like we want it getting ready for that big day when he retires. We still have some time so we set out to ready our garden.
It is more than 25 X 50 with a 5 foot fence to keep the animals out. I have some questions about the garden and that's why I joined this forum.
Nice to be here. Barb

Greetings Barbara------We bought the retirement home 17 years ago and have enjoyed it immensely. Although there is a Garden Section in this Forum, the name "Forum Garden" can be misleading as it's not about gardening exclusively. I am sure though that your questions about gardening may be answered by one of the members that has gardening as an interest.

I have a few gardens. What are you growing?

librtyhead, I have a veggie garden with many rows of lettuce, brussel sprouts, tomatos, cabbage, beets, strawberries, asparagus, hot peppers and bell peppers, radishes, horse radish, squash, water mellon, cantelope, wax beens and green beens, lima beens, peas, and OMG I can't tell you all the rest. My hubby went nutz this year. LOL
I also will have a garden in my whole front yard. It will be for plants and flowers. It's on a hill and we don't want to mow the grass. It will be mulched with walkways. The top flat part will be roses.
What a nice place. Great with replies. Very nice.
Thanks everyone. Barb

If by garden you mean debauchery then your in the right place.
If garden means garden then I think I speak for all of us when I say were all a sad group of ignorant slobs that wouldnt know a hybrid tomato from a dishwasher.

Nomad, have you ever been in close proximity to either?
Don't you believe him, New. Mosey on over to the gardening section and I'll see you there.

Welcome to the Garden Ware. I'm sure some of us can answer your questions on gardens. You can probably teach us some stuff too. Your garden set up sounds beautiful especially the part that your won't have to mow.

I grow cactus... on purpose, does that count? I have moderate knowledge on the subject.

I have some cactus too, but mostly patio and yard ornamentals--a huge variety. My daughter, next door, has an even larger variety. I have it all on automatic watering systems. I've tried some veggies & herbs.

Very nice, and funny, batch of greetings. Thank you all.
I don't want my hubby to have more unpleasant work at retirement. I want us to have time for play instead. Our front yard is a hill and ugly to mow. That is the part that wil be flower gardens with little paths.
In the back we have many fruit trees, that produce very well and my greenhouse. It's beautiful, good size with only exotic plants in it. Since we are from northeast USA, we have to keep it heated all year. What a treat every time we track through the ice and snow and open up the slider door to walk into the tropical paradise. It's like taking a 25 feet to Florida. LOL
Zapata, I have my greenhouse on an automatic h2o systems and my garden also. LOL Makes life easier, that's for sure.

I just re-worked my drip system to make it more efficient and save even more water. I noticed that my jasmine is smelling so lovely.

G'day Barb,and welcome.
I like the look of a lovely garden, just not the hard work to keep it from becoming a wasteland.
I was staying with a friend in NM a few years ago and the cacti that was growing in the gardens looked spectacular and well suited to the architecture of the houses.
