Alcoholism is not a lack of willpower - functioning alcoholics have the willpower to restrain their addiction and recovering alcoholics have the willpower to control it but they are still alcoholics and will be for the rest of their lives.

You can be a regular drinker and not be an alcoholic - it is not the frequency with which you drink but the bodies reaction to the alcohol.

It is not a psychological condition but a physiological illness.

thanks for the reply bryn :-6

that does seem to be the case

Well Jim,

I am not going to argue symantics here, but I do believe that alcohol, cigarettes and chocolate are very addictive to people who have a propensity towards the chemicals in these materials/foods.

I honestly don't know if it's a disease since people are still debating the issue. However, I do feel that addictions are not necessarily due to a person's lack of will power, but also to heredity.

There's a connection between genetics and addiction to alcohol and drugs.

I do believe that drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes are addictive. Addiction is an illness that sometimes develops the same way other illnesses develop.

Jim,

Chocolate is addictive. It has chemicals in it that trigger our mood for comfort, pleasure and sex.

If you don't want any of these moods, then have some chocolate and wait for 20 minutes until having the next piece of chocolate. It takes 20 minutes for the brain to react to the delights of chocolate.

Why do you think that we give our mates chocolate for Valentine's Day hunnnn:p....gets them all spiced up;)
