I was surprised to hear the news, Nomad, and I do wonder why she came to that decision.

Maybe it was the constant cheap shot at her and her family long after the election's end.

Whats that got to do with finishing out her term ? She had an obligation. She quit because her feelings were hurt ?

Some people put family FIRST. Had she hung in there the attacks on her family would have only escalated. Maybe her motherly instincts kicked in and she put protecting her family before her own ambitions.
Maybe it was the expense of fighting each mostly false charge or accusation.

Yeah Hoppy ... and maybe if she'd simply been having an affair with a married staffer or a foreign reporter she'd have had the balls to finish out her term,eh? Is that what you're saying? She wasn't man enough to take it?
Bull!
She more then proved she has no motherly instincts when she knowingly propped her pregnant teenage daughter out in the public spotlight in her own pursuit of the VP slot.
She's a loser who has lost the confidence of the very folks who elected her. Rather then promoting Alaska, she spends her time promoting herself. Now she can focus on raising the big bucks for 2012 and cashing in by writing a book or two... suggested title for one.. nightmares of my mother....

Well, it certainly reinforces my original beliefs. That being that women belong in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. Surely not in politics. Not enough brain power or thick skinned. Always did think that but I did like Sarah.

Approval ratings plummeted to a dismal 67%. Yup that's really in the toilet.
I think it's somewhere between the saint and spawn ya'll have described. One guy mentioned Nixon & how he spent his time building a grassroots movement & won the presidency. That's likely closer to the truth.

67? She was up close to 90 at one point. 67 would be a pretty dramatic drop from that height. But from where she appears to be riding lately, 67 is something to aspire to..

Doubtful. Shes already alluded to a discussion with her family taking a vote on whether she could serve her country better from outside of the Governors office. That would make her choice a personal gain. If this is true the fact remains she quit what she started. I take personal obligations very seriously. If her family were in danger that might be different but that doesnt appear to be the case.
Her character has been shredded by her own actions. If she cant fulfill her sworn duty as Governor then her career is behind her.
Shes become un-electable.

Most all past presidents were quitters then. They quit their elected post to run for president. They got lucky and won.
In fact, we're all quitters, in that we quit one job to take a better one.

I hope you're writing her off in pencil.
Just a day or two before her announcement, a pundit said she could destroy the system, which is why everyone on both sides of the party are terrified of her. I'm sitting here watching George Step-on-Snuffelupogus listening to a lady calling her small and petty. I don't see what they're scared of. If she stays active behind the scenes we'll see her come up again as a standard repub clone.
Personally, I'd love to see someone destroy the political & electoral monopoly they've built to protect themselves. It would be the best thing for America I can think of.

Stepontopofus isn't running for president. Neither is McCain now, so knock yerself out.
Anywho, like I said, it ain't happenin'. The Party will lobotomize her and all will be status quo, just like now.

Well thats all fine and dandy but what about accountability ?
Her constituents fought and rallied for her and they relied on her to follow through.
Id say the same about anyone walking away from their responsibilities.
Yes people quit their jobs but this is different. Not everyone gets voted in to their occupation. She should have stuck it out. If there were obstacles she should have fought harder.

I've been giving this a lot of thought. If she really has enemies suing her (rightly or wrongly) taking up her time and the state's money, and if she has other goals other than governor (whether political, familial or recreational), it's better for Alaska that she pass the baton to the next guy in line (no matter what it makes her look like).
If her action pisses you off, stop being so upber loyal to her and vow not to vote for her next time.

I'm still mad at Ross Perot for quitting. And I wore his T-shirt and everything. I've still got it in case he ever runs again.
