Whats wrong with morals?

I was just doing a little blog to try and make sense out of what occured last week, (see Ravens blog) and I still cant make sense out of it.

Why on earth would someone be so castigated over mentioning having some morals over the subjects of anal sex, homosexuality and prostitution? These are what is called sex education today folks.

How many of you would TEACH your children about them?

One of my classmates thought I was too out of touch. She actually said, "It's out there and everyone does it!" Well I ask, DO they?

What do you guys think? :-2

when i was single and 18 all the girls had too many morals

now im 36 with a 17 year old daughter i keep tellinhg her to have more

Here is the blog I wrote. Explains a bit more of my conundrum.

Sex education is NOT what it used to be! In class the other day, we were discussing what we thought children, up to the age of 15, should be taught and at what stage.

All was going well until the subjects of anal sex, homosexuality and prostitution were brought up.

I contributed my thoughts which were this;

I wouldnt TEACH my children any of the above. I would however, talk to them about such subjects if they asked. I wish you could have been there! This statement caused the most outrageous uproar you could have imagined.

Of course I was labled the most hideous of people. Another student (who is older than I) actually got in my face and refused to participate, and blamed ME and my opinions for it!:-2okay...

I made it well worse by asking what was wrong with having a few morals?

So now I have been ostracised by my classmates for demanding an apology from the student who got in my face.

I really must be getting old....

It's not about morals is it, it's about other people thinking that they know best and that they can tell you what your thoughts 'should' be. Then they have a tantrum because you wish to stick with yours and not do as you're told. Very childish but sadly it's become the way that a lot of people see fit to behave nowadays, very aggressive and oppressive.

And apologise if it is only me who doesn't know.

I would suspect many of your fellow students felt the same, but were too shy to stand up.

I wonder at what point do you STOP giving unsolicited information ?

I mean if you really want to cover ALL aspects of sex education why stop at prostitution homosexuality and anal sex ?

Should we instruct our young about necrophilia, bestiality, incest ? And of course there are many more less mainstream 'preferences.'

oh well most of mine have grown up and the 13 year old probably knows more than i do :-3:-3

Define morals.

There is nothing wrong with homosexuality and most homosexuals do engage in anal sex. Fact

Prostitution been around forever.. no denying it.

Giving to children an appropriate amount of information in a non-judgmental manner is, in my opinion, a very different matter from helping them grow a positive values system for how to conduct their lives, which is what I understand by morality.

Sex education seems to be what your fellow students appear to lack. Sorry you had to go through that experience.

Sex education, in my opinion, needs only teach why people are sexually attracted to each other, and the process of the reproduction of the child. It should teach mutual respect and love. It should teach that it is wrong to force any act onto an unwilling partner. It should teach the morals of sex in a civilised society.

It doesn't need to go into the details of sexual activity except to the extent of explaining reproduction. Only the most exceptional cases need to be taught the physical side of it which otherwise comes as natural as eating to a baby.

Morals are a tricky thing. What is a moral matter to one, certainly can differ from what is a moral matter to another! Similar to what is normal to one, can differ from normal to another. It seems today's lifestyles have definately changed over the years, or maybe not. It can be that just those life styles are much more open & accepted in today's world. "Kidlets" today, know "everything" and anything at a tender young age. With the internet, cell phones, even racey TV ads, VH1 & all, it's inevitable for them not to find out anything they are curious about!

(Nothing is hidden in the closet anymore, & it doesn't have to be) There are many things I don't like, & I don't have to, but, I do accept them! Times are-a-changin!

I think morals are what you are raised with. Getting away from the subject slightly but as an example. I see the memorial gardens of a war memorial lovingly planted up by the RBL as a tribute to the men who gave their lives for this country and some T**t comes on here and calls them 'a piece of turf'. No wonder kids are turning into feral yobs with no thought for anything or any one else in this world.

Sexual morals...... I haven't a clue. I suppose, i believe there are certain things that children don't need to know until they wish to experience them, their selves.

In my mind, a civilisation cannot fully function without a certain level of moral standards as a part of its make up. Without these, there is only social chaos. For example, a child will naturally take something that does not belong to it until it is taught that it is wrong to steal.

I think this is true. How you view things, words, etc.. Example: Years ago I had a Mexican girl who was born in Mexico but educated in Cal. as my secretary in my real estate office. Swear words just had a different meaning to her than to me. I heard her rattle off a couple without batting an eye that made my toes curl up. I had to tell her "No, don't ever say those things unless you're in the privacy of your home." Yet, I once said, "That's a b-i-t- * *." She gasped and I thought she was going to pass out.
