Quality Of Life

Post by Lon »

Politicians, Economists, Medicos and people in general are talking about "Quality Of Life" issues. Each seems to have their own definition and criteria for what they consider to be "Quality of Life" I have mine and it's fairly broad. What do you consider to be "Quality of Life" and do you have it?

Quality of Life is a definition that would vary from person to person.

I breath every morning when I get up, I don't have hardly any aches or pains, I'm still young at 54. I can think clearly, and am generally happy all the time. What more could a person want?

Good question Lon.

Its a difficult one though, at least for me because my mind is always buzzing with abstract criteria.

Some people who have a lot of material wealth, especially those who didn't work especially hard for it such as Hollywood celebrities, old money, and federal politicians, think that a high quality of life isn't possible without material possessions. Nothing could be further from the truth, of course, but that hasn't stopped them from creating the culture of envy that is strangling the US and most (all?) of the other developed nations.

There's an old song we sang in church when I was a kid, Count Your Blessings. If people looked around at the blessings they have, rather than coveting the stuff other people have, our quality of life would skyrocket, and we'd have tons of money to help the few who truly need our help.

What is quality of life?

I think of that question alot. Does my husband have the best quality of life to be expected? Who but me or a family could decide such an issue.

Would we want to live and not be able to speak properly, and always have to have a caretaker?

Who would decide these things outside of loved ones?

I think no one has the right to tell me what is right-he can read to himself, play solataire now, watch tv and understand most of it, and he laugh at the antics of the critters everyday. A kind word puts a smile on his face.

That is what life has given him, and the quality is there, within his soul.

Interesting replies. I'm surprised that no one has brought up the Health Issue. You could have plenty of good food, good housing and surroundings, but what good is it if you are in an oxygen tent or constantly drugged up on medication for pain. Could it be that many take good health for granted?
