Actually it goes back even further than that the origins seem to be norse. It's origins are similar to the black pudding or tripe in the north of england-it was just a way of using every bit of meat from an animal rather than throwing away the bits that are unpalatable on their own. You get similar things throughout europe. We are quite used to the english claiming to have invented everything. It's a way of coping with the inferiority complex the average englishman feels when meeting an average scot.

Fortunately, there are no "average" Englishmen. ;)

At least, I've never met any.

Woohoo! Last day of the third Test about to begin. Possible England win???

Thank heavens for yeast. Went round the Fullers Brewery last week. Their London Pride is faaaaaantastic. Hic!

Wonder what we'd get if we brewed Gordon Brown... Watney's Red Barrell, probably: sex in a punt....

Nah lorne sausage is a delicacy these culinary philistines would not be able to appreciate.

Give me a Haggis supper covered in nippy sauce any day you can keep your pork faggots and mushy peas.

curry is only meat or vegetables without the spices it's stew, chilli con carne without the chilli it would be mince, a pizza base is just a lump of bread. It's not the ingredients it's what you've done with them that matters.

Cooking holds the key to life itself, it's not what you start with its what you do with it that matters.

I see the press are trying to hype this up. Most scots don't give a toss who invented it, most of us know it's ancient in origin and have got better things to worry about.

Now if you want to start an argument with the more precious of my nationalistic countrymen try pointing out that the short kilt worn today rather than the plaid was designed by an Englishman and the fancy clan tartans are a Victorian marketing ploy dreamt up by the very kinds of people that set out to destroy the highland clans in the first place or that culloden wasn't simply a battle between the english and the scots.

But it's easy to cook eggs. Perhaps you went somewhere that wasn't very popular, and they didn't cook them for you, but pre-prepared them. How were the potatoes?
