Viking longboat jewellery wanted.

Post by Rapunzel »

My current school term finishes on Wednesday 22nd July. I am very good friends with one of the other lady teachers and I would like to buy her a very personal and special farewell gift. She loves amethyst colours and she adores the viking era. I would love to buy her a viking longboat necklace but have only seen charms on Ebay and they're not very special. Can anyone suggest a great present for her or does anyone know of a great viking jewellery store online? I need to get it by Wednesday (Woden's Day appropriately ;) ) and yeah, I know I'm cutting it very short. In my defence, the last few weeks have been manic! :D

Any helpful/ thoughtful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Viking Period ‘Annular’ Decorative Neck-Plate 005931 is very pretty.

"about us" gives a reasonable sense of security as far as authenticity goes.

How very thoughtful of you !!! If only more folk had such thought instead of the usual crap box of Milk Tray and supermarket wine. I can't help sorry but i have always had a fascination with the vikings and their use of ravens as navigational aids. I was very lucky to inherit a small diamond viking longship from my mother in law.

That'll do. Bung it in the post and I'll send you a tenner for it! ;) :D :wah:

Thankyou for your kind words Oscar. :) I love to choose gifts that I think people will enjoy. My friend has a viking name and belongs to a viking re-enactment society so she would enjoy anything along that theme. I know I should have bought a gift before but I only had the interview on Thursday and was offered the post on Thursday evening, and to be honest I really didn't think I'd get the job. One of the other applicants had way more experience than me but when they offered me the position they said that I had the widest range of experience. Lucky me! :) My friend said that as we work in such a difficult school with so many problem children we get a better grounding into dealing with behavioural problems. We have about 350 pupils and at least half of them have social / behavioural and educational special needs. At the new school there are 5 (that's FIVE!!) children with special needs!! I won't know I'm born! :wah:

This album is still considered to be a masterpiece. The opening track is called 'Longships' followed by 'The Raven' a track about the use of the raven by Vikings as a navigational aid. Do watch this video..... it's a great Vivking battle re-enactment set to 'The raven.'

Ah, it didn't post my message!

Well, I was wondering if you ever did get your teacher that longboat because I'm a silversmith spending the summer in Norway, so I'm a friggin Viking expert now! I know it's a bit late, but if you got her address then I'm sure your teacher wouldn't mind! :p

Thanks Lora, that's very kind of you, as were all the lovely suggestions I received. As I was desperately out of time I bought her an amethyst heart on a silver chain. It wasn't really what I wanted to buy for her, but she was thrilled with it and wore it right away!

If you write your web address with spaces in between, it should show up here. I would love to see the things you make! :-6

PS, Welcome to FG. I hope you come back and post again. :)

That's really sweet! As someone said earlier, it's better than a box of milk tray!

I don't have much up yet (I'm quite lazy when it comes to photoshop and internet!) But the pictures are pretty!

I meant to say that I was looking for jobs online for myself and I came across your post and thought "what are the chances!?"

Thank you for the warm welcome :)

Welcome to the site Laura. There's a world of difference between someone joining in order to advertise to the world in general and someone joining to offer to hand-make a piece of jewellery that's already being talked about. I hope none of the moderators have any doubt on that score.

It's a wonderful combination of talent and skill, I always enjoy looking at the hand-made silverwork at the summer festivals here.

Hello, Laura. Since our Rap has kind of endorsed you, I welcome you to FG.

There is a section where new members are invited to introduce themselves. You can find it by clicking on this link: http://www.forumgarden.com/forums/introductions/

Generally speaking, this forum does not welcome spammers and other people who come here just to advertise their wares. On the other hand, there are plenty of traders here who participate in the spirit of the forum.

This is wonderful news to me and i wonder if you could help me? My wife is very interested in the history of the Vikings but more a particular rock band who used the longship as an album cover many years ago. I am not as up to date with the history of this band as she is but i do know from what she has told me that the emblem of a raven was used on one of the albums due to the Vikings keeping ravens on their longboats. She has a photograph of this album cover so i will try to find it and show you here. She has always wanted a souvenir of this album so i wonder if you would be able to make a piece for me that i could give her for Christmas?

I can't find the full photograph of it but have found this photograph with the emblem in the background. Is it possible you could replicate this into a piece of Jewellery?

Thank you.

Wow! Thank you all so much :) To tell the truth I don't really spend that much time on the computer but if I'm ever feeling lonely I'll know where to come!

I can sympathise entirely about spamming, and I'm glad you didn't see me as one. I used to run an online music magazine and got really really annoyed about people just coming onto the forum to tell us to listen to or buy this or that and never coming back online. As I said I was searching for work for when I'm back home and stumbled across Rap's post and found it to be such a coincidence!

And in reply to Peter, that is so sweet! I would love to be able to make something using that emblem! This is the thing I love about my work, I get to work with people to create something special and with it's own story (I know I sound stupidly hippy-ish or new age, but it really is a fantastic feeling!)

If you want to email over any other images you have then that would be fantastic and I could start drawing up some designs for you?

Thank you again you guys!

Thank you again you guys! Thank you very much. I would strongly suggest you delete your e mail address from your post as there are internet stalkers and some strange people in cyber space. I will e mail you a closer photograph of the emblem as i have always wanted a piece made for my wife. It is her all time favourite album from the seventies and has never tired of it. Far better she has a piece to wear than the tattoo she threatens to have done. :(

Thank you again and i will be in touch. :-6
