problems
I really don't know where else to turn, I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing here, but if I don't put this down somewhere, I'm a very private person, and its hard for me to speak to anyone about whats going on with me....Every since my husband died of twenty five years every thing have been going from bad to worse. two months after he died I lost my job, and then it really got bad, I have two sons grown now, but at the time one was still in high school and the other in college. We rent and at first i had enough to pay but then the money got thin, and my husband died without any life insurance after working 45yr. at Montgomery Ward(thats a long story). (he was 25yrs older than me). I got temping jobs and got in over my head in dept, now I'm still temping and my rent is two months behind, they are threating to turn my lights off, i have high blood pressure and diebets and can't pay for my medicing, I'm trying but it feels like a sinking hole. I got a second job, and still its not enough, i don't know if I'm managing my money wrong or what, now I'm thinking of getting a third job, but i'm no spring chicken and wonder if my health will be all right...plus, I know compared to the people down south what i'm going thru is nothing, but i just don't know what to do....i tried getting help from the state food dept. but they say i make to much. i showed them my bills, and what i have left, but that did not count...well now what?

I'm to young to get his SS, thats what they said, and I'm able to work, thats why I'm thinking of taking a third job.

if you were married 25 years your age has nothing to do with it, you get his SS. how could you be "too young" if you were married 25 years?

you have to be 62 to collect on your own SS. ( unless you're disabled) but if you were married even 10 years you can collect on his. get online to SS. --Social Security Online--------------

I went in the office and they told me unless I was so sick I could not work, then i could collect on his ss. but until I reach the age of 63yrs, I could not collect. if you are sure of this, i will contact the office again Tuesday, I always thought i would be look out after but when they told me this...it was a shock, ..now are you sure? I have his death certificate, and our marriage license, so i will try again.

When your spouse dies you are able to receive his benefits. It may a good sum if he was not married before. IF he was married before, his X wife may collect 1/2 too.It sounds nuts but there is no age on this. You need to bring his death certificate in there and demand that. Also you could qualify for your son -if he died when your son was in high school you may be eligible for back benefits. Don't let these people tell you different - my mother went through this too...Good Luck.........SSI benefits are when YOU are unable to work...SS from a death is given to you for your loss...2 different thing!

Hi, and thanks
Should i ask for the supervisor, when i go? or what exactly should i say?, i know this sounds stupid, but I feel like they are giving me the run a round. Did your mother keep going or what?,,,My husband was never married before. any help you can give in telling what to say and who to see would be very much appreciated..

Hi,
this is what they told me,,
Social Security survivors' benefits can be paid to the following:
-- A widow or widower - full benefits at full retirement age, or
reduced
benefits as early as age 60. A disabled widow or widower may receive
benefits as early as age 50.
they said , only if disabled can I receive benefits at age 50. thanks for caring....I will work this out.

Tell them you're from a "Foreign" country, it seems those people always somehow are able to get some kind of benifits. :wah: Sounds like you need to go to a dedicated SS lawyer who specializes in getting benefits for deserving people.

A SS lawyer is worth the money! Especially if they're giving you a hard time about benefits. Plus you may be eligible for other programs that you aren't even aware of.
