Nicknames and how they are devised.

Post by fuzzywuzzy »

I'm Australian and we have a thing about names . If an australian likes you they will never refer to you with your real name. Even if the nickname is a little on the rank side it's a friendly compliment as to how an aussie feels about you. But if we don't know your name or forgotten it you will be "mate" until further notice. Nicknames often are given to denote the opposite of what you are or excentuate what you are . We have a thing here that if your a red head we call you "blue" You know, tall people are called "shorty" or "stretch".

So what nicknames would you give another on this forum.?

I don't want to do anything with your real names incase of offence.

Odie- odie one. Because odie is forceful and likes to get her way:D but does it in a way like Obie one from star wars.

Oscar- oscy baby - Because she's tough and Oscy baby is so not a tough name.

Spot- ummmmmm - dot - because his posts are something everybody is attracted to so i'm doing the opposite to his bigger than ben hur ego. :D If I wanted to go the opposite of what I think I'd call him "Sir" Get it? I don't think he should be called 'Sir' so I call him 'Sir'.:D:D:D:D -------(the number of smilies expresses my fear of being banned after that comment )

Mrs K - Special K - because I think she's special.:)

Bill Sikes - billy boy - because I think he would be an older distinguished individual that wouldn't like to be called it.:)

Nomad - smilie- Because he's not.:)

kazalala - Kazza- because .well just because. Same with Carol would be Cazza.:)

Lon- Lon john. because his posts usually come to pompous ego. :D

I was given a nickname on another forum once "mouthy" hee hee hee well it was correct in it's simplicity. I didn't take offence.

The shorter the name the more you have to elongate it. The longer the name the more you have to shorten it.

Nicknames are not given out of spite they are given with fun and humour in mind. It's a nice way of saying how one sees you. Personality is not a bad thing but to be enjoyed by all.

So what would you guys call each other ...........and remember it's fun not spiteful and those given the nickname should take it on board with pride because it says in essence you've touched someones world to the extent that they actually acknowledge yuo and think about you.

Now Spot I'd call Brains, because if you want to know anything he usually knows it or where to find it. (Or Timmy, after Timmy Mallett, specially for his eyewear!:sneaky:)

Jimbo would just have to be Buster - Buster Bloodvessel, Bad Manners lead singer purely for the bald head.

Oscar I think would be Jack, as in Jack Russell - tenacious little buggers who don't let go once they've got hold of something... ;)

Clodhopper is definitely a Pink Fluffy Chicken and always will be... he knows why.

Pinkchick just can't be anything but Pinkchick, it suits her so well.

I'll think more on this..............

Let's start with the obvious ones :-

Hoppy becomes Lefty so Spot would be Dexter

Chookie would be The Saccenach which would make Farmer Giles Captain Serious.

Ted has to be The Athiest - a name he shared with Jester

TruthBringer and Dutch morph into The Butterfly

Any more?
