My friend pulled into one of those drive-up coffee shops. She ordered some exotic combination then asked what I wanted. I said just coffee, black. Clerk said they don't sell it that way. WTF!.

Ahhhh Mags...

So many men, women, children stop for their cafe mocha yada yada every morning and pay heaps for it.

I can't be bothered...

Here's what I do.....

I bought a farberware percolator coffee pot because I love this company and think that they make the best pots. Cost $70 and I bought it on sale for $40 for a 12 cup pot.

Then I bought a coffee grinder for $10 and ground my own coffee beans. It's easy peasy.....Just buy different samples of coffee, grind them and see which ones you like.

My favorite coffees beans are A&P French Roast and Dunkin Donuts. My favorite ground coffees are Maxwell House French Roast, Folgers French Roast and Medaglia D'Oro Caffe Expresso. You can't go wrong with 'oldies but goodies.'

Every morning I grind the beans and savor the aromas that fill my soul. I only add a wee bit of 'sugar in the raw' and milk. Sometimes, I add whipped cream and cinammon.

I can't wait to wake up tomorrow so I can have my delicious coffee.

I do spoil myself with my coffee regime Ducky because it brings such delight to me. I adore the aroma of freshly ground coffee when I make it at 5 AM. It just perks me up and makes me happy.

Recently I bought a new Farbarware pot and found out that it had a dent in it when I got it home. I needed the pot now for company and had to return it only to buy a Cuisinart because they hadn't any more Farbs. I know this is an excellent company but it's not as good as Farb....oy vey, I need to buy another pot soon.

I have several Farb cookware...they are great pots...bought one at a yard sale years ago...still going strong. I bought the 1 quart pot..its great for making spag sauce...paid about 10 bucks for it...the truth is Farb ware is so much better I think...stronger bottoms.

Dunkin Donuts - NEVER!!!!

My coffee drinking habits are completely and unashamedly from nasty foreign Europe - shared by many of my Aussie compatriots who also derive from nasty foreign Europe.

My first coffee of the day is short, black, strong and aromatic.

Mid morning I have another, and occasionally mid afternoon. These coffees are also double shot strong, but in a normal size cup and may have a dash of milk.. macchiato style.

After dinner coffee is again a short espresso, but usually just a single one. I sleep well.

It's what you're used to. I don't touch tea (except green tea with some Asian food), coca cola, red bull, sports drinks, milkshakes, slushies, coffee essence flavoured cream concoctions, sweetened pop drinks of any kind.

I like water (tap water), a small grapefruit juice at breakfast, coffee and of course red wine with dinner.

I got given an expresso machine, bought a grinder my favourite beans were old brown java. Then ( realised I was spending £80-£90 a month on beans so decided better cut back-I was drinking two shots at a time topped up with milk. I now use a caffetiere but still indulge occasionally in old brown java. Might try a plug in percolator though. I can't be bothered with those wee cups I need a big mug of the stuff.

 How much :wah:

I like coffee, but weak and black. One jar of instant can keep me going for a couple of months :o

I like freshly ground too, especially the smell, but it makes me spin and stops me sleeping.

When I was in Canada this year it was such a pleasure to go into a Tim Horton’s and order a ‘large regular coffee’ (regular meaning 1 sugar & 1 cream) and for them to actually know what I meant.

Try that here:

“ Can I have a large regular coffee please?

“a what sir?

“a large regular coffee¦

“Do you mean an ‘Americano’?

“what the feck is an Americano?

“Black Coffee.. then you add what sugar and cream you want

“Sure OK

“Would you like that full fat, half fat or no fat?

“hu?

“Your Americano sir? Full fat, half fat or no fat?

“I don’t know, let’s go with half fat

“What strength?

“What do you mean now?

“Well we have ‘aromatic’, but we also have Kenya, Columbia, Ethiopia and beans from various parts of the word which have different strengths and flavors

“Just give me a fecken cup of coffee..

“Sir, there is no need to get frustrated, we are just trying to make you coffee experience a memorable on.

“Trust me, that you are doing..

“So

“So what?

“Which coffee would you like sir?

“Never mind, I am going for a beer.

Well now.

Would that be lager, bitter, stout or ale?

My favorite coffees beans are A&P French Roast and Dunkin Donuts.

They do have a nice bean. Flavorful and rich.

Favorite is Cuban coffee. (made by cubans who know how to make it)

Cuban Coffee Recipe - Authentic Cafe Cubano

(Instructions on how to make Cuban coffee)

There are two methods to making coffee the Cuban way: the traditional method using a metal stovetop espresso pot, or with an electric espresso machine. While the stovetop method takes longer, its certainly the authentic method, you can find a stovetop espresso maker at most online Cuban store websites.

1. Using an espresso machine, add the desired amount of finely ground coffee, common Cuban style brands include Bustelo, Pilon and La LLave (I'm partial to Bustelo supreme, I buy the Cuban brands online from the Cuban Food Market). Any of the very dark roast Colombian brands will work best for Cuban coffee. I myself grind whole beans there at the store so that it is fine, fresh and ready to be made (espresso grind setting). Do NOT store your ground coffee in a freezer, but do keep it in a cool place away from sunlight. If you insist on drinking real Cuban coffee, only one site online sells it

2. For every demitasse cup of coffee you plan on making, use a teaspoon of sugar. The key to Cuban coffee is that it be very sweet. The trick here is to put the sugar into the glass carafe before you even brew the coffee.

3. Brew the coffee just as you would an espresso. The coffee will pour over the sugar in the carafe as it begins to brew. After it is finished filling the carafe, stir it briskly as there will still be a little undissolved sugar. Pour the coffee into several demitasse cups and enjoy.

* For Cafe con Leche, simply use 2 parts Cuban Coffee to 1 part steamed milk.

Coffee was brought to Cuba in the mid 18th century but it would take 40 years before it became a big part of the economy, by the early 1800's it became a bigger import than sugar. So far, I've come across only one website that sells real coffee beans from Cuba. The brand is "La Estrella del Norte", its 100% Cuban Tortino Extra (Turquino) whole beans grown in the shady jungles of the Sierra Maestra Mountains of Eastern Cuba.

I think we're twins Mags:wah:

I also have a bread machine that I use all the time to make dough. I then use the dough to make bread and pizza. Sometimes I just make the smaller breads in the machine. Do you have the Pampered chef stoneware to cook the pizza & bread on....

I use the dough to make a thin pizza pie and add homemade arrabiata sauce and sundried tomatoes and spices from my wee garden...rosemary, sage, basil and thyme.

Oh, I love the smell of fresh bread and coffee...nothing like it.....especially on a cold winter's morning.

Wow, you have an outside pizza oven....I'm impressed....that would be my dream to have an outdoor kitchen:-6

Mags, I had my yard torn up and replaced with pavers...couldn't deal with the weeds anymore. I place pots in certain areas and grow herbs and tomatoes. Works very well if you can find the correct place for good sunlight....I found it. Have some pics on my profile of my wee garden. It is small but yields a lot of spices, and the rosemary survives the winter. I've had that plant for 5 yrs.

Arriabiata sauce is hot and spicy...Here's my recipe...I also add more hot pepper flakes and a hot sauce to the recipe...

INGREDIENTS FOR ARRABIATA SAUCE:

1 teaspoon olive oil

1 cup chopped onion

4 cloves garlic, minced

3/8 cup red wine

1 tablespoon white sugar

1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil

1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

2 (14.5 ounce) cans peeled and diced tomatoes

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

DIRECTIONS

Heat oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Saute onion and garlic in oil for 5 minutes.

Stir in wine, sugar, basil, red pepper, tomato paste, lemon juice, Italian seasoning, black pepper and tomatoes; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium, and simmer uncovered about 15 minutes.

Stir in parsley. Ladle over the hot cooked pasta of your choice.

YUMMO!!! Sounds awesome, Kathy. So does Fuzzy's outdoor pizza oven. I must say I cheat with making pizza by using pitta bread.. but I do sometimes make my own pasta. I'm a big fan of straight pesto sauce too.. basil, olive oil, garlic, pine nuts and a little parmesan cheese... I can feel my waistline expanding at the thought.

Romy's packed up her room here, and the corridor and lounge room are full of boxes, cases, bags etc... all in a neat row ready for transporting tomorrow morning about three miles to the new flat. Grin. Mike will then move off the lounge room floor into the newly vacated spare room...

Any coffee going?

Thankyou for the recipe kathy .....definately going to try that.

The outdoor pizza oven is a big concrete dome ...can do roasts in it etc. You can make it yourself or buy them . Not so much an outdoor kitchen (although I do have an impressive BBQ ) but an area to go to in summer rather than cook inside.

Pammy _ boxes bags in hallway, sounds like my place at the moment :wah:

Have you ever tried garlic butter or garlic with olive oil and mozzarella cheese on pita? Now that's a great snack!!!! Kids love it. Baked of course.:)

6:00 am and I have a coffee, white with one .........I believe it's called a "standard"

Hi Fuzzy! Well I'm up and about to start lugging stuff. Grin. Coffee and a quick read of the Sat paper though first.

Garlic and olive oil on pitta is great. And of course that is how pizza started, and is still eaten in many mediterranean areas. It was just griddle bread with any herbs or flavour you had, and of course oil.

COFFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE... gotta have... gasp.... grin

Have a great day Fuzzy, Kathy!!!
