The Kennedys of the United States

Post by along-for-the-ride »

Now that the last Kennedy brother, Ted, had died of brain cancer, the media has been reminding us who the Kennedy's were.

The Kennedys: Portrait of an American dynasty - Politics - MSNBC.com

I have never idolized the Kennedys nor thought of them as the "perfect" Catholic family. But I do appreciate and acknowledge their active participation in politics and charities.

They have had their share of tragedy, but, I am sure there are numerous other families who have been through the same heartbreak. They just weren't rich and famous.

Oh Diana,

Thank you for posting such a lovely thread for the Kennedys. I found out last night that he passed and have been out all day. I was hoping someone would put up a thread.

It's so sad to me that all of the 'aunt and uncle' Kennedys are gone, but at least the nieces, nephews and some grandbabies have met their elders.

It made me sad because I know how hard it is for the children of the elders now who are the new 'aunts and uncles.' You realize how fast life slips away.

This has happened to my family recently. All of our parents, with the exception of one auntie have passed. Now all of us 21 1st cousins are the last 'aunts and uncles."

Bless the Kennedy family. They've always had their ups and downs, but they were so unique and well loved.

I remember as a young girl how sad it was to hear about John Kennedy being assassinated. OMG, we cried forever.

Yeah...I was a baby when JFK was assinated & John was not even a month old...so we didn't know anything. My parents & his parents were so stunned when that happened. But anyways, Ted Kennedy had his own ups & downs but was an excellent senator.:)

Chappaquiddick.

I think Camelot belonged to JFK, Bobby was the knight in waiting who never got his chance. But I always remembered this. If he would have jumped in after her, then I would have understood. But he didn't.

and it haunted him for the rest of his life...he would have made a great president but settled for senator instead. He blew it on that call.

I wish him peace where he is now. I wish her peace too. It is a series of losses for the family with those passing so soon together.

So much reverence for this family despite its womanizing and what it did to poor Rosemary. I have never had any respect for the Kennedys.

He had 3 brothers tagged to be president and all 3 died. He'd have to be mighty thick to ignore such a strong cosmic hint.

I delayed saying anything in view of the Kennedy love fest going on but, your post gave me courage to post my feelings. I never liked or admired that bunch. My friend was in the army when Robert Kennedy visited his base. They passed each other in a hallway and Kennedy stopped my friend and berated him about his uniform. Kennedy was just throwing his weight around since everything was in order and he couldn't find any real faults. That's how petty he was.
