How to read the info on your tires!

Post by cars »

Hope the pix comes out large enough to read the page!! It really is very useful info when buying tires, & or even to indicate when to replace them! Even if they have plenty of thread left, but they're old & dried out, & S/B replaced! (I clicked on pix three separate times, & the third time it filled the screen!)

We have similar markings in the UK.

What are the laws on tread depth in the 'States?

Good question I'm not sure there are any. If there is I'm can tell its not enforced here in San Diego. I'm a tire checker from way back I'm constantly looking at tires my dad taught me that good tires are a must.

It doesn't ever rain there, does it? There's a bit more to safety than tread depth, of course...

What is a place called "Fort Stockton Drive" in SD like?

No it doesn't rain much her but when it does all the bald tires create awful accidents as they slip and slide all over the roads.

"Fort Stockton Drive" its a street in the Downtown area with bars, coffee shops, apartments etc. I'm not familiar with a place called "Fort Stockton Drive"

The minimum tread depth criteria "here" has been said to be, using a Lincoln head penny, insert the penny into the tread depth, and it should reach at least upto Lincon's hair!

Crude, but effective! :wah: (It equals about 1/16" thread depth)

Fill your tires according to the specs on the car NOT the tire.

Its a tag likely on the inside of your drivers door when you open it or on the door to the gas tank.

Those are the max and min air pressures you need to follow.

I can tell just by looking at the tread.

one more year for me.

tire pressure?

look at your manual, not the tire.
Life is just to short for drama.
