Off site meetings

Post by mikeinie »

Oh wow, we have such fantastic weather right now, and it is suppose to be like this all weekend.

At my work due to cut backs at work all expenses have been frozen, so any perks for staff have been stopped.

It is kind of boring and the moral is down a bit here, so as a manager, I decided that we would start having off site meetings, but due to cost restrictions I would have to do it in a way that did not cost money.

So I stared having them on my boat. Today being gorgeous I decided to call an offsite meeting with a few of the staff (the next one’s in line), we left the office at 12.30 and by 1.15 we were out on the boat heading towards Ireland’s eye. I killed the engine and we just drifted for about 30 minutes enjoying some tea.

We did a quick tour around Howth Head and headed back to the marina and were back in the office for 4.30 in time to pack up and go home.

Irelands Eye

Howth

They love our new way of doing staff meetings.

They loved it.

what a fabulous idea!:guitarist:guitarist

and I'm sure they appreciate getting away from the office to have a tour in your boat!

I can definitely see more meetings, as people can also hold them in their homes and serve tea.

Thanks

The other thing I started doing which they love is randomly on a Friday every couple of months or so, I call the dept to the boardroom for a full staff meeting just after lunch. I have popcorn ready and I put a movie on the big screen. We have done twice so far and they love that as well.

Excellent idea something more bosses should do. :-6

Our last staff retreat was on San Diego Bay for Lunch and a cruise out to the point staff loved it. :-6 We do movies days as well actually we have social committee designed just to keep the staff happy. They do all the work they should be treated to some of the fun.

Thats an excellent idea. It shows a manager who thinks of his staff. Good man management.

We had a "moralle booster " this week. 5 blokes working away from home. We couldnt manage sumptuous Irish scenery or an afternoon on a boat but we did have a few pints in a Northampton pub with sticky tables and rubbish food.

WOOZA MIKE....:-6

Those are my kind of meetings:D What a special boss you are;) Man oh man....I would love to work with you. Play hard, work hard, have some perks with a good boss...that creates a wonderful work day. Thank you for doing that for your workers Mike....:-4

I think that it's so important for employees to work hard, and then they can look forward to those perks at the end of the week;) It's nice for a boss to reward their workers with some special perks even thought they don't have to.....It just makes the employees happy and delighted to have something to look forward to...

On one of my last jobs in the business world, I worked 40++++ hrs. a week (that didn't include lunch or break), drove 1 & 1/2 hours to work each day and same home, started work at 9 and didn't eat lunch or have a break until 3:30, and multitasked all day long and never had a thank you from a boss. I had to sign out to go to the bathroom:(

It would have been nice to a few perks once in a while:(

That's why I like to give my school kidlets perks....We work hard each day and receive a perk at the end of the day....a 15 minute game that they love....Every Friday afternoon if we worked hard all week, we'd do something special for the last 45 minutes of the day.....go outside and play, watch a dvd, sit and chat, sing songs and have a little dance, do some art work and have a contest....do a science experiment....etc.

WORKS FOR ME:guitarist ....WORKS FOR THEM:D

Thanks for the comments, I enjoy it myself.

My boss, (who is on another country) does not know that I do this, and I think would freak out if found out.

But you know what? My staff are happy and amazingly we have the highest productivity and best quality results month after month than any other location in the business.

OK, We had a general meeting here this week, and one of my Supervisors was over from another country, and my boss was in from the States.

Being the type of guy that likes to be up front about things, this morning I went to my boss and said, ‘we will be back in a few hours, we are going out on the boat, you are welcome to join us if you want’. She said ‘no thanks, but please don’t drown the supervisors’.

Maybe she is cooler that I give her credit for.

So off we went for another off site meeting. Only this time the sea was a bit rougher (force 4), so we only went out of the marina to the deep water marker and back in again.

They enjoyed it anyway.
