Do you remember what you were doing when you learned about the 9/11 attacks? Where were you and how did it affect you?
I was home getting ready for work and had the news on. Hubby saw it and called me into the livingroom, we sat there and just stared at the horror, it was so sureal. Neither of us made it to work that day...just waiting to see what was next was terrifying.
Let us never forget, and my prayers are sent out today for those who perished and the families left behind.

We were just leaving for work. We had the news on and Mr O was in another room. I saw the first plane in the tower and took no notice thinking I was watching a film clip. Then the 2nd plane hit and I realised from the commentry that It was real. I shouted to Mr O and for several hours, we just sat transfixed on the TV. I think for me, the most horrific moment was when the towers collapsed and I realised that the people inside were doomed. Like everyone, we were just stunned and will never forget It.

I was at my mom's house in the basement doing her laundry. She was watching TV. I heard her screaming and ran upstairs.

I was in bed asleep. My husband woke me and told me that I had to see this. At first I thought it was a movie that he was watching, then saw the second plane hit and then listened to the comentary. After that I was speachless and transfixed to the TV for the rest of the day. No airplanes overhead, very little traffic. Everyone was so shocked, as was I. Then heard about the other plane that crashed and the pentagon. I live very near a Nuclear Plant and was so afraid that those would be the next targets. Felt that way for days. I prayed a lot for a very long time.

I was at work, and of course we are 5 hours ahead here so it was around 2 pm.
My wife phoned me in a panic and told me a plane just flew into the twin Towers, I got up from my desk to and went out of my office and at once the phones in the office started ringing at every employee desks (about 30 employees on the floor) as family started phoning about it. All worked stopped and people started turning on radios and watching the news on the web.
I was at work, and of course we are 5 hours ahead here so it was around 2 pm.

I was at work and a colleague said OMG look at this! I clicked on to the news channel and saw the first tower in flames. I think we all thought it was a terrible accident. Then the second plane hit as I watched and we just knew...

I was working in Dublin. Someone heard it on the radio. The word got around so we all hugged around the radio for a bit not believing what we were hearing. Then we all left work and went to a pub with a large screen and watched the news in almost total silence

Where were you on 9/11
I was in the classroom, we were not told for an hour. The principal came down to tell me in person, because my husband was supposed to be at a meeting at the Pentagon that morning. Luckily the coast guard yard was understaffed for some reason that morning, and he had to stay there for the day. (oh, that was a relief to me)
The parents started coming in to get their children, it was very hectic. We hadn't seen any news yet, we tried to keep the classes going as well as possible. But the world outside knew, and they wanted their children close to them, they needed the sense of their security. We eventually had most of the students go with us into the hallways as parents came to pick them up. Only afterwards did we watch the news, as the shock of what happened was emerging in the hours afterwards.
To watch the scenes as they replayed during the day was shocking. It brought a sense of unreality to what we had known as a safe haven, our own homes. We lived for weeks afterwards in this area with jets and formations flying overhead, patterns changed with every fly by. That Saturday I remember going to the high school football game with my children, and we all kept looking upwards into the sky as the formations flew by. It was a relief to see them, it was chilling to know why they were there. We would watch our children on the field and wonder what would happen next. I think those thoughts still stay with us today, I do not take the aspect of security for granted anymore.
May we remember those who died-the brave ones on Flight 93. This is my comments and a poem I composed for one brave one who died that day, so others might live.
"Let us endeavor to live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry. " --- Mark Twain
Todd Beamer died at the age of 32, and will always be remembered for his heroic act on Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. Todd is remembered for his last words heard, “Let’s roll, as he took the serving cart to use as a battering ram. Todd led the charge to retake the cockpit from the hijackers that resulted in the plane’s destruction in the fields of Pennsylvania. He saved untold thousands as one of the many brave souls who departed on this flight. Todd is survived by his wife Lisa, and their three children.
There was no more worthy person then Todd, who exemplified the quotation by Mark Twain.
Outbound flight above the crystal blue sky,
Todd relaxed in his chair on the jet,
Chatting with the people nearby,
Then they appeared before all,
Destruction was their voice,

I had taken a break from fostering and was working night shift at the time....when I first saw it on TV I thought it was a movie....when i realised it was real life a was just stunned and horrified:( I couldnt sleep properly for a long time after that as I kept thinking of the families of the victims:-1

I was at work. In our cafeteria is a large screen TV. I stood transfixed and watched. At first, I thought this was an airplane in trouble. Then, the explosion. Then, the second plane. The second horrible explosion. Then................a terrorist attack in the US. Then more terrible news from the Pentagon and in a field in Pennsylvania. I remember I stood outside my workplace and looked up at the sky angrily, "What's next?' then "Bring it on............you don't know who you're messing with!"
All those lives lost on that day. True Heroisim. I am saddened and in awe to this day.

Very similar story to Mike's - I was at work and my wife 'phone, in tears, describing what she was seeing on the news.
We turned on the office TV and watched in horror as the worst got steadily worse.

I dropped little-one off at daycare and when I turned the car back on the radio was announcing that it was believed that a small commuter plane had crashed into one of the towers. A few seconds later they changed it to a large plane and then only a few minutes later it seemed - the second one hit. Shortly thereafter there was talk that at least one more plane was out of contact and quickly upon the heels of this announcement was the grounding order.
We had commercial flights down on our local cornfield enclosed runways ..with all local emergency vehicles lined up to assist if need be..
By time I got home there were flags up on every house in the neighborhood.:-4 I have no idea where I got mine because I didn't own one before.

I was at work when the planes hit the towers. When the first one hit, my colleague seemed to shrug it off as an accident but I was suspicious because it was the World Trade Centre. When the second plane hit, I went cold throughout my being.
What really brought tears to my eyes was watching those people jumping to their deaths. I have not seen anything more horrific than what I saw this day.

I was in my classroom with 35 hormonial teenagers that day performing a science experiment.....Our principal, vice principal and other teachers were chosen to quietly inform all of our staff about this tragedy.
We didn't know what was going as the attack just happened but knew that we would learn all about it when we had a free minute to view the tv coverage in the teacher's room. We also knew that it was important not to upset our kids as their parents , family and friends worked in NY....no need to cause panic with our wee ones.
Thankfully, our parents didn't panic and only some of them took their children out of school for the rest of the day.
Our parents discussed this tragedy with their children that night. Naturally, we had all of our resources available to counsel our community.

Oh Roger, you really made me cry there...Seeing people jumping to their death because they know that there is no hope of survival will haunt me forever.
Our media played cell phone calls from flight 93 from the passengers saying goodby to their loved ones, knowing that they were going to die. That was so heartwrenching to listen to...One of the phone calls was from a brother calling his sister saying goodby and telling her that he was so sorry for fighting with her and that he loved her.
That call touched me so much as I had been fighting with my brother at that time and realized how stupid our fight was....made me realize how much I loved him and how destroyed my life would be without him.

I was working at a grocery store. Customers came in all day long talking about it. When I got home, I watched it on tv. It was so much easier hearing it second hand, even with all the misinformation, than it was seeing it on tv and knowing what had taken place. I remember the shock, horror, and fear I felt that day. I cannot even begin to fathom how the families of the victims dealt with seeing these scenes over and over and over. :-1

Turned on the telly & thought it was a movie,untill they kept replaying the footage of the plane hitting the building.

I thought they did. We have a UPS hub maybe 10-11 miles from us and they are constantly flying over us while decending...the silence was eerie yet comforting.
