Where were you when Lady Di died?
I was in Plymouth was and at home. I remember watching all morning and was transfixed by the sad news footage.

Where were you when Lady Di died?
A day I will never forget, it was the day I brought my five week old tiny premature baby home from hospital, I'd spent the night there 'rooming in' with him where I was supposed to be in a room with him all night and deal with him on my own. I did deal with him on my own but on the SCBU ward where we watched all the events unfold on the TV.
Where were you when Lady Di died?
Sat in a computer laboratory at some horrifyingly early dark hour before dawn, when it suddenly showed up on the BBC news ticker.
Nullius in verba ... ☎||||||||||| ... To Fate I sue, of other means bereft, the only refuge for the wretched left.
When flower power came along I stood for Human Rights, marched around for peace and freedom, had some nooky every night - we took it serious.

I was at home. I kept flipping channels waiting for someone to announce the mistake. didn't happen.
My first thought was to flash back to her wedding, I was a young mother of two and like every other girl in the world, determined to believe in the fairy tale.
My next thought was for the horror her children were about to endure.
Charles, I just wanted skewered..

I would like to know whether her death was really an accident, there are many conspiracies theories over this. Charles really despised her.
I was in Uni and staying over at a friends. I watched it most of the day, rang people and kept on saying, No way i cant believe it! It was shocking.

Charles, I just wanted skewered.. It was pretty inevitable. In any family that lives that kind of lifestyle, the chances are, it will happen to one of them. You only have to look at the history of high flying family like the Kennedy's, Onasis and even past Royal Families here.
Anyone who thinks it was not an accident needs sectioning. The latest Imformation come to light is that the white fiat seen in the tunnel was in no doubt there and it was clipped by the Mecedes causing Di's car to spin into the colomn. The French authorities did track the Fiat but it has never been publicised for the safety of the driver who would probably be assassinated by some nutjob. I can understand that.
The simple truth is that if Dodi and Di were to have put their seatbelts on, they may have survived. Every conspiricy theory has been blown out of the water with fact. That is of course, if the Duke of Edinburgh hasn't silenced all the experts :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Don't remember where I was when she died. In bed, I expect. Was very struck by the genuine grief displayed, though. It meant a great deal to a great many women, mostly. Less to the men, as far as I could see.

And yes, I saw the funeral on tv & cried...your queen blew it big time..good thing she has her handlers on her..the idiot

I have no idea what sectioning means, so I'll pass on that... but I remember the stories out about her land-mine agendas making her unpopular with some unsavory folks and god knows that if Charles could pick Camilla over Diana, who knew what else he was capable of...
It took a while for the 'possibilities' to settle down, even over here. You can't lose someone that popular without suspicions.. it's only natural. I think I even heard the BNC was suspected at one time..

It's only natural to assume foul play in any global star, just look at Micheal Jackson when the truth is, he was a drug addict.
I remember when John Kennedy Junior's plane crashed and immediately thinking foul play... it's a natural thing to do.
Di's landmine campaign in Angola was no threat to anyone least of all the British Government and Monachy. It was a campaign that many a Brit celeb had jumped on long before her. She had no influence in Govermental or Monachy status so an ulterior motive would have been pointless.
As for Charles, he may have been having an affair with Camilla but Di had a string of lovers also. I myself have the theory that Charles knew he would have to abdicate when the time came simply because the British public would not accept Camilla as their Queen. There-fore, to have Di bumped off for Charles to be free to marry Camilla, would have been ineffective.

Of course she changed...everybody loved her. Her hubs & his fam treated her like dirt. Imo, the monarchy is the embarressment.

I agree. Although her brother came off as a major embarrassment in the whole tragedy too, IMO.

Di and Elton John had a major falling out some years prior and were not speaking to each other. He was actually very cruel about her until she died. Then the two-faced sanctimonious drama Queen turns up at her funeral.... yuk !!!

I shook Diana's hand when she opened our local fishmarket, stunningly beautiful woman.
The tragedy began when the decision was made that Charles could not marry the woman he loved. Hopefully the Royal Family have learnt their lesson that they cannot control and engineer all around them.

I loved lady Di...Awesome woman..:-4
I remember the day she died vividly...
I was pregnant with my 1st child and had anaemia and as im rhesus negative AB blood group I carry anti bodies so was having lots of blood tests and I felt so low that day that I was lying on top of the bed watching TV...I had the decorators in the next room plastering and artexing the ceiling....Hubs had gone to buy a new (not new..clapped out old banger that would be new to us lol) car, when it flashed up on screen, I could not believe it, I was waiting for the announcement that it was a mistake, I cried and got myself in a state and the plasterer made me a coffee lol..
I loved her, she was an inspiration to me and I wish she was still here with us and to see how brilliantly her sons are doing.

It devastated and shocked me, she was a fine lady, always helping others, taking time out to visit other counties and help the less fortunate, she was a Princess I will never forget.

There certainly must be something special about her. - Otherwise people around the world wouldn't appreciate her so much. The problem is I can't think of any special features of her and I have always wondered what makes her so attractive? It's certainly not her intelligence - she had had problems finishing the school, it's not her looks - there are more beautiful women, it's not her social activities - among people in high places almost everyone is somehow involved in charity, etc.
So I suggest to change the topic a little - what makes her so attractive to so many, how do you think?

Good question. My theory is that she was actually no different to any other young woman involved in charity work but what made her stand out was the stuffiness that we expect from the Royals. Where all the Royals are cold, stuffy and indoctrinated with protocol, Diana was genuinely warm and broke protocol. When you have for decades had a Royal family that has been out of touch and aloof from the common man in the street, compared to them, she seemed different but as you said, really no different from any celeb involved in Charity.
I think also, it had very much to do with media exposure. there are many young women Royals who do just as much charity work and Diana did but as they were not the future Queen of England, they do not get the exposure such as Sophie, Duchess of Wessex. Diana had massive media coverage and began to mix with film stars and rock stars... this turned her into more of a celebrity than the others. After the divorce she still attracted huge media scrutiny simply due to the people she mixed with and not for her work.

For someone who does,nt give a toss, why have you replied so many times on this thread? lol! If you cannot say anything nice do not reply, all the other members have shown respect and replied to the question asked.
I thought Diana was a great royal, she dealt with being in such a position in life, with dignity and loyalty. She knew that Charles had another love in his life and remained his wife.
I loved the way she cared for her children, taking them with her when they were just babies. She also made her boys aware of how others lived, especially the homeless. I admired her greatly.

We have had many many a thread on Diana and I have said nothing here that I have not already said before. You can not post a thread and then get nasty simply because some-one does not hold the same view as you. That is what a forum is for... for views of any kind. However, if you actually read all that I have said, It is not all bad. In answer to your question, If no member posts an opposing view, you find that threads die out very very quickly as it leaves no subject for debate.
Diana like any other person in the public eye is down to personal choice. There are people in the world that we are impressed by and there are people we are not impressed by. I personally was not impressed by Diana, however, I am greatly inspired by The Duke of Edinburgh..... personal choice as I said.
Ahh Nomad, when you peel back the layers you get to see the real person. :sneaky:
I regard the Duke of Edingburgh a racist bigot, why would anyone admire him.

The interesting thing is though -another member was just taken to task publicly, for invading a 'where were you at this moment' thread with negative posts. Kind of ironic, if you stop and think about it, eh?:p
You get an 'out' because the OP didn't specify that downers need not post..

First let me tell you why you liked diana - she loved her kids, she didn't conform and she looked good in protective gear..

There is a slight difference when the negative posts are directed at a nation on a day of mourning. If this thread had of been on the anniversary of Diana's death, I would have had enough respect not to post negatively. As I said, we have had many a Diana thread and I didn't see any-one complain when I posted negatively about her then. Pot Kettle, Black.... When you also posted on that thread about your country being attacked.

Sometimes I put her out on the deck to be in the sun. The cracks between the boards freak her out so she walks with her legs all stretched out like shes going to fall through.
