Why was this woman and her family failed?
'Police dismissed 30 pleas' from mother who killed herself and disabled daughter to escape the yobs | Mail Online
I have probably never read of anything as tragic as this.

I read that story this afternoon, it made me feel so sad. They were tormented for years, and no one came to their defense. :-1

I feel so sad for her because I had a lady contacted me very recently about similar events. I have to say that the police in my area have been very good and we are due for a meeting next week to form a plan of action. If only this lady had this, she may not have felt so alone.

I'm hoping the meeting next week will see a good plan of action to stop It. Everyone should have the basic right to live in their home in peace and quiet. I just hope lessons are learned in our police force from what happened to this poor woman in the article. It really does go to show the levels of despair a bunch of feral brats can cause.

I read this story earlier today tragic, sad and it didn't need to happen. Why wasn't her cries for help listened to? :-1

In most cases with yobs, the police simply don't have the man power to go out to every group of kids throwing stones etc. I understand that but this woman's son was punched in the mouth, locked in a shed at knife-point and even had fire-works put through her letter box that could have burnt the house down. I blame no-one but the police here myself.
Also, this is down to the break-down of communities in this country. There was a time when the neighbours would have come to her aid but now, folk don't want to get involved or are too selfish to help others. Add to that, useless parents who haven't a clue what their brat is doing, where they are and who they are with.

There is a breakdown that is for sure. Here in the States messing with someones mailbox is a federal offense and they go after them. This family was tormented just that simple and no one did anything to help.
We have some bad kids state side as well. We haven't gotten to the point of not helping our neighbors yet in fact we have stepped up our involvement with our kids and neighborhoods.

That's the thing Carla.... If I was watching a neighbour suffering this... I would just have to get Involved, i would just have to... that's the way I am. I had a long chat with one of the officers involved in my lady's case and he quite rightly said that when these groups of yobs hound some-one like this, it affects their whole quality of life.
The pattern I see many a time in these cases is that these yobs pick on the most vulnerable, the elderly, the dis-abled, other children. They rarely pick on the tattoo'd skinhead do they? Cowards the lot of them.

You make a very good point they do seem to single out the weakest or the most vulnerable. I too would have gotten involved just couldn't stand by and watch it happen. So sad she couldn't get help. :-1 How was she able to set the car on fire without someone noticing?

I suppose it depends on how she did it. If she ignited the petrol tank, it would have exploded before any-one could help. Or maybe she drove to a remote area?

I just read the list of complaints astounding that nothing was done to help her. Just the trespassing alone is a crime here. Her check book and disability book stolen from her car, her son was repeatedly attacked and beaten, they set fire to her yard and fence. My god these are are crimes just that simple. (see list of complaints below.)
Mr Tew, now retired, said: 'Anti-social behaviour often occurs in residential areas when no actual crime is being committed. There's no damage or assault and it doesn't pass the threshold for a crime.'
But Miss Davison, assistant deputy coroner for Rutland and Leicestershire, disputed this. She said: 'It seems to me that, given the history and the context of the abuse, it would not have been anti-social behaviour but a crime, because we had people hounded in their own house.
I hope they carry a massive brick of guilt around their necks for the rest of their life!
My son and his freind at around the age of 13 were once cheeky to a man who ived up the road from us, he and all his family had learning difficulties etc. but none of them ever caused any trouble, not like some other kids in that area! The man and his wife also always said hello to you when passing,, so when he saw me he told me what had happened, i asked him are you sure? he said yes, described my son and his freind and what they were wearing. I was absolutely livid!!! I went andd found my son and hauled him over the coals, i madde him go and apologise to the man, and then he was grounded, punished and lectured about his actions. I went to his friends house to tell his mother what they had done,.... and she said,, ohhh them ,, well they are not all there are they,, and laughed!!! Really???? and that makes it ok for your son to be cheeky??? I just walked away.
Thats whats wrong a lot of the time,,, but the police have a lot to answer for ,, its getting to be a huge struggle to get them to hold people to account for what is seen as trivial matters,,,they just dont seem to want to know.

I think the problem is Kaz, is that the police have to have the proof for the CPS to bring a prosecution. When they get called out to a bunch of yobs, the police and the yobs know full well that by the time they get there, the yobs are gone. For the police, that is a massive waste of time even attending in the first place. I have had it said to me so many times by officers here that they have to actually catch them in the act, and that is the big problem.
However, one night about 3 months ago, about 30 yobs decided to have a fight outside our house.... nothing to do with us. I kept calling 999 as my elderly neighbours were phoning me as well terrified. We had the building work going on and the yobs were climbing in our skip outside getting lumps of wood and glass out. 3 hours went by and no police attendence so I phoned 999 back and told them to forget it and I was going out there and I'd deal with it myself. Guess what?? The next morning I got a phone call from the Police Inspector apologising and he said it had been an exceptional night and they were under manned blah blah blah but at least he rang me. ( We have some lovely chats on the phone). Since then, we get regular calls from local officers asking if we are OK and if we have had any problems since. We have but they are dealing with it. Last week was exceptional for problems with yobs in this area. I left a message for the Inspector to call me to discuss it and sure enough he rang and spoke to Mr O for quite some time. We complained about the attitude of one particular officer and an hour after the Inspector rang off, that Officer rang Mr O to ask what he could do. :wah: Me thinks he got a bollocking. One officer had given Mr O his mobile number and Mr O had got his answer machine. Soon after the officer rang him back to say he was actually at a party on his night off but could he do anything to help.? If only that poor woman had that kind of help????

Sorry to hear they got off Kaz... I really do believe it's down to what area you live in. It used to be like that here and I'm no doubt that the good deal we get now might have some-thing to do with my well known association with certain gutter press hacks. :sneaky:
If anyone is plagued by yobs, you must report every incident and insist on a log number for the call. Youth crime rose by 40% last year and they are just the one's who got caught. The problem is as well, is that we live in a very selfish world now and unless it's happening to them, folk won't get involved for fear of reprisals from yobs in the area. It's catch 22 because if the police do not get the volumne of calls, they can not go to their superiors and ask for extra's or a dispersal order. There again, you do get the police officer with the attitude that it's just kids being kids which leads the kids to think they are bomb proof and go on to far more serious stuff. If anyone gets an officer with that attitude.... Report them.
