Driving his hybrid is minimizing polution, or is it. . . . .

Post by cars »

So anyway yesterday, this guy feels he is doing his part to try to help solve the polution problem by driving a hybred car on the highway. But is he really helping minimizing polution?

He was driving around 50mph, in a 55mph zone.

Therefore, causing the "gas" poluting cars coming up behind him to have to pull over into the next lane and accelerate to the higher speed.

Consequently, causing many other cars to have to use more gas, & also causing extra polution from/by jamming hard on the gas pedal to pass him. He's saving, "many" are wasting! :-2

He's not responsible for the actions of others so how is it those fault they are choosing to pollute.

Don't kniw about the states but over here the fuel consumption from the likes of the prius isn't actually that much better than you can get from a medium sized petrol engine. most 1.2 and under will better it and there are several that will give you 60mpg+. Most diesels will wipe the floor with it without even trying. unless the newer ones have improved of course.

he should have been driving the normal speed on a highway.;)

others would not have had to accelerated etc.

They didn't have to pass him it was their choice. besides 55mph is a maximum speed surely-not mandatory:sneaky:

Were your tyres at the correct pressure? how sure are you your speedometer was accurate and reading 5 mph slow?

Actually one of my pet hates is people that sit at 40mph on a highway (where our maximum speed is 60mph) then they come to a town where the speed limit is 30mpd and they don't slow down.

here, we must do highway speed or higher, otherwise it causes to many accidents.

our highway speeds are 100KM.....everyone does 120KM (why? because everyone here is always in a hurray).....if you don't keep up to speed most of the time, then everyone is slamming on breaks, swerving in and out to get past you, drivers cannot get over to other lanes, and also to get away from slow or dangerous drivers, highway 401 has 8 lanes, 4 in each direction).....there are 'exists' every kilometer in the city.

Even going 100Km at certain times is just to slow, you need to go at least 120KM to pass them for an exit, to get away from a dangerous driver, truck that doesn't look safe that could possibly loose their load.......etc

- our pets peeve's, no signaling, on cell phones and not paying attention, drivers cutting each other off, incoming traffic coming onto the highway just assume that you can move out of the way when they sideswipe to get onto the highway when their lane runs out......pay attention and slow down, then go faster to enter a highway.....and soooooo many more problems.......while your doing 120KM!

at our speeds you have to drive like this........we have no choice.

life in a fast paced city.;)

and just so you know...drivers here going through small towns, don't slow down either!:-5:-5

You'd like the german autobahns-no speed limit so people pull out to overtake and pull back in as fast as they can in case they get rammed form behind. 80mph and you feel like you are crawling along and cars belt past as if you are standing still. What makes it worse is they are driving on the wrong side of the road.

On the same note, how is a water saving terlet a good plan if you have to flush it twice everytime you use it? :-3
