What an astonishing vote. Chicago was eliminated in the first round. It's now down to Madrid or Rio after Toyko went out on the second ballot. Rio's apparently worrying the committee because it can be violent there in the suburbs.

So is Chicago. Been there. Survived though. If I give a crap about seeing the games, and I don't, I'd rather go to Rio or Madrid. Probably Madrid.

You have a passport, hoppy? I didn't know Americans needed passports, I thought they owned the planet.

It seemed relevant to "Chicago was eliminated in the first round". I was wondering why it might have happened.

Maybe it happened because they wanted to show they were not going to let Obama get his way. A lot of us don't want it here anyway.

I can't see how it could possibly have been held in the US, half the visitors would have been deemed terrifying by Homeland Security and the other half would have stayed illegally after the Games had finished.

It's the first time the Olympics will be held in South America, so that's interesting.

The North American TV networks carrying the Games (CTV here, not sure which one in the USA) are thrilled that the big events will happen in prime time.

If Rio's Mardi Gras parades are any indication what the costumes may look like for the opening/closing ceremonies, I'm looking forward to some titallating TV! :yh_drool

I'm glad South America is getting a turn. Doesn't the host country have an opportunity to introduce a new Olympic sport???? I wonder if us Aussies could score a medal or two dancing the samba ????? Time to start practising.

Pity the poor british athletes in 2012. The pinnacle of your sporting career-something you strive for and do you get to go somewhere exotic? No you go to London. What an anti-climax.
