Lovers of French culture and art snobs are buzzing with disapproval after McDonald's confirmed its plans to open a restaurant within the Louvre in Paris, according to the Daily Telegraph.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary in France, McDonald's will open its 1,142nd French restaurant a few yards away from the iconic art museum in Carrousel du Louvre, an underground shopping center within the Louvre complex.

Can you say: ZEFrenchfries?:wah:

I was never so disgusted as I was in Venice to see a Macdonalds cafe... geeze why why why I say??

I hope that doesn't happen, there is no need for Macdonalds to be a cultural icon.

I too was kinda shocked at the planned location! McD's is already in paris, why do they have to open in the Louvre, cause they can, no reverence?

I think they're planning a whole "international" fast food hall there, Cars.

For those who like actual French food and real coffee - all the other places will be less crowded.

(The Louvre can be a pretty nasty place altogether. Know first what you absolutely must see and pick your time - ask a local)

I don't like this - The Louvre is a Momument of Art.. there's a McDonalds right around the corner and they're not cheap according to American dollar..

The Louvre is not a Mall for a Food Court

Wow- how much money is the Mac Clown giving to France for this move/ownership

We visited Paris for 8 days and spent 2 of those days in the Louvre. We spent 16 hours viewing the art work of this gorgeous museum. We've never visited a museum more beautiful than this one....

Why on Earth would this institution want a Mc Donald's eatery there is beyond me.....

I just remember loving our hours walking through this wonderful place and wishing it would never end.

I probably have my facts wrong...It was a long time ago when I visited the Louvre, but I remember a guide at the Louvre telling us that if you put each room in the Louvre side by side, it would be about 7 miles of art work.

The French feel the Louvre was destroyed when they erected the glass pyramid. I agree, its architecturally out of context. A McDonalds is a pie in the face of all of France. Then again McDonalds couldnt build a restaurant unless the French allowed it.

I was going to mention that glass pyramid - have you had the opportunity to visit the Louvre? I didn't care for the glass pyramid - somewhat out of place.

Why would the French want a American Establishment (Mc D's) in this monument of Art.?? The French still aren't real crazy for the Americans

this makes no sense - Mona shouldn't have to smell greasy fries all day:yh_rotfl.

sounds like you enjoyed your visit as much as I did.

I'd love to return to Paris - it was a wonderful vacation.

What Im suggesting is that I assume McDonalds cant just do whatever they want without permits and permission to build. Someone in authority agreed to allow the food chain to exist on what I would consider were I French sacred grounds.

Oh, it's definately scared ground - it's a treasure for sure.

I just can't imagine the reasoning ??

So - decision involved alot of money.

In 1999 - during our visit, McD's was $37.00 for 2 hamburgers, 1 fry, 1 coke..

I expected Linen Napkins at that price...:yh_rotfl

I hope this deal doesn't go thru.

Probably some major "greasing of palms" most likely with fries.

Hi Patsy,

I cannot even begin to tell you how spectacular our trip was. My boyfriend, at that time, and I decided to walk everywhere because we were into walking, and we also wanted to save cash for our lovely dinners.

We had walked our way through Ireland, London, Paris and Munich. I lost 20 pounds and wore out 2 pairs of sneakers:wah:

We ate in the most wonderful restaurants, along the Left Bank of the Seine, every night and danced away the night in the clubs.

What a romantic city....would love to return one day:-4

around what year were you there?

I was there in 1999 - I'd / we'd love to go back..

The only way to see everything & experience all of Paris is to walk - we walked everywhere - never rented a car or took a Cab or bus.

The only rest we had was riding up & down the Seine.

But you did some serious walking

wonderful time..
