Do You give tips at Christmas to your Milkman, Binman etc?
What prompted this thread was recalling Tradition at Christmas on Ravens thread.
For as far back as I can remember, My mother would begin her 'Tips Jars' for the Binman etc. around this time of year.
As a child, unlike today's society, my Mother had a coal man deliver the coal for the fires, and even a Gentlman who called once a month to sharpen knives door to door.
She would have a row of pots all labeled up for the Binmen, Milkman, Paper Boy etc etc. By the last week Of Christmas, she'd have a generous tip for all of them.
I suppose it's down to tradition but I do the same. The Paper Boy or Girl, the Binmen and my Avon Lady.
How many of you do the same?

Don't buy newspapers, different postie every other week and the binmen are the laziest jerks ever to draw breath, the only tip they would get from anyone in our little street is put the bloody bins back where you find them and clean up the freakin mess you spill every week you tossers.

I used to. When I lived in the states. But we dont have the same people every week. Noone stops to say Hi anymore. But I do have 'over the fence' chats and occasionally get sloshed on wine with my neurotic on all the benefits available lesbian neighbour! :yh_bigsmi Does that count? She borrows a fiver frequently but never returns the favour. Is that a tip?

I don't tip our garbage collectors since they own the business. The mail person I may give cookies to. The hairdresser gets an extra tip if I go in December. My favorite bartender where I throw darts will either get an extra tip or a small gift. I don't have the newspaper delivered, but they always got an extra tip at Christmas when I did have it delivered.

My dad was a giving person. He would meet the garbage truck in the alley on it's last pick up before Christmas with a case of beer for them. Mailman and paperboy got cash.

We have had the same Postie for years. We get the problems when he's on hols and we get a relief guy. Our regular Postie is very good. We've had the same paper boy for 3 years also and he's never got my papers wet. The Binmen I have to say are excellent and I have no complaints like most Brit peeps. They are regulars, they do pick up If they drop stuff. They are always really polite and smiley also. I start saving 50p pieces around this time of the year and then they all get about £20 each at Christmas.

My regular mailman hurt his back so he's off my route this year but we have Gus who is very good also. If he sees the cat by the front door, he just leaves the mail on the table outside & lets me know.

I like the men who work for my town......I give our sanitation and mailmen some cash and booze....usually beer and an Irish whiskey. That keeps them happy and taking care of my mail and garbage:-6:p
I always tip my hairdresser and waitress.....extra on holidays:D

Yay Kathy!!! G'day Hon!!
I used to do that, but these days there isn't a neighbourhood bin man or post man or milkman - just subcontractors, always different. Used to leave them a sixpack.
You don't tip in money at Christmas here in Australia (in fact you only tip any time for service way beyond what people are already well and fully paid to do - except in tourist areas it's usually considered an insult in Australia. If Australians tip other Australians it says I'm better than you).
But if you have a regular hair stylist, you might give them a gift at Christmas - a small box of chocolates, some home made shortbread.

I never tip-I consider it degrading both for the tipper and the one receiving and a hangover from the days when people needed the crumbs from the rich man's table. It's incredibly patronising imo. Besides I already pay for the the binman and postie and they more job security and better pensions than I do. I don't tip in restaurants either- I've already paid for the service when I ordered the meal. I object in principal when asked if paying by card if I want to add a gratuity ity's like we've agreed a price and by the way it costs extra for us ti give it to you.
