I bought an Air Wick Auto air freshener today and put it on the shelf behind me.

It works by putting a can of air freshener into a unit that has batteries in and every so often it delivers a shot of air freshener.

The problem is, everytime it shoots a shot out it sounds like a snake hissing in my ear and it makes me practically jump out of my skin!

It has now been relegated to the bathroom.

I bought one about 6 months ago, the dog ran to it to see what the hissing noise was and then would sit for about an hour just watching and waiting for the noises.......but now I can´t get a refill from any local stores, not even the one I bought it from.

hehehe I don't ever buy these things as I'm allergic to perfume, they are a nightmare in other peoples homes, I have to ask people to turn them off or I have to leave.

Personally I think they're actually bad for everyone not just me!

If Hamster shows her whiskers again ask her about her time at the perfume factory.

They don't mention that in the advertisements!

I bought one of these for my office. What a hoot when several people are in the office at a time and the little machine hisses! First thing on their minds is....who passed gas!

AND it smells like crap in the begining --- can't stand those things. If you want your house to smell nice - open the windows. REMEMBER - I am one of the "can't stand smelly things" people

Abbey, I looked at the "Auto Air Fresheners" in our stores in my neck of the woods, they wanted $ 2.59 for the puny little thing! I had just past the housewares dept, where I saw an "Air Freshner", (same sent) but because it didn't say "Auto" in front of the Air freshner, it was only .88 cents!!! So I bought the .88 cent Air freshner, put it on the floor in the back of my Car, opened it just a crack, & it works great!!! Also, & more important, mainly no "hissing sounds!!! :wah:

We had one of those at the office. They set it on top of one of the seven foot file cabinets. Unfortunately, I was standing in front of the files when it went off. The smell nearly gagged me and I got mist all over me. I smelled that crap all day.

I've seen them at the vet's office and I don't know which smelled worse, the animals or the scent they were using.

I use candles but I have to place them up high because of the wagging tails in the house. I don't like those plug in thingys, they get entirely too warm and, according to a friend at the fire department, they can cause house fires.

I just got an air freshener to put in my car, the kind you clamp on the vent. I'm going to see how that works and whether or not it interfers with the air conditioner. I'll chunk it if it cuts off my cool air!! :driving:
When choosing between two evils, I always like to take the one I've never tried before.
