Ladies' Day at the Races - Melbourne Cup

Post by AussiePam »

Ladies - the whole of Australia stops round 3pm this afternoon. Time is suspended. For two minutes we are magically transported out of the everyday into some lofty realm where the champagne is vintage, our designer outfits show off our perfect figures, our menfolk are rich and handsome.... and all that jazz.

Anyway.... I made a list of 24 Forum Garden ladies who have posted in the last day or so - and there just happen to be 24 horses available. Tempting to match people up - but I did it fairly... picked each person's horse out of a hat... Here they are...

If I'm relatively sober after attending a gathering at the local classical music radio station.. hic... I'll post the resuts. Oh and there will be cyber prizes, of course.

First place: A ForumGarden male of your choice will take you to cyber dinner.

Second place: A ForumGarden male of your choice will post you a music video showing his deeply passionate feelings for you

Third place: A ForumGarden male of your choice will post you a limerick

Last place: A ForumGarden male of your choice will post you an emoticon

Hi Kaylene - I thought it might be a bit of fun.

I give my word that the horses were randomly picked... I am a little embarrassed after a recent conversation with my friend Kathy - that I couldn't unfortunately guarantee her the Irish nag... and lo and behold!! It was obviously meant to be.

I have no idea at all which horses are good ones... I hope Harris Tweed does you proud, Kaylene.

My horse from last year is, I think, still swimming towards the finish line. Maybe Shocking will be shocking and win this year!!!

Kathy - Master O'Reilly is green with a few yellow stars

Harris Tweed is red and black vertical stripes

Shocking is dark grey with orange diamonds on a slant.

Gallions Reach is silver with blue sleeves and blue stars, Minks!!

Isn't that a hoot, Kathy - you are obviously destined to have Mr O!! He's apparently been ticking along nicely - but is unpredictable!

Apparently boy horses run better than girl horses... !! Statistically speaking. I'm sure the girl horses are much more stylish!!

I wonder if Shocking is a boy or girl?? Has a trainer with an Irish name... Nar she's a girl horse. I think. Only has to overcome a wide gate to be in the thick of things - I wonder what the heck that means????

I've gotta go do the grocery shopping. Will be back... :sneaky:

5am - rather an indaycently uncivilised time to race hossies - but what the heck!!

I used the list from this morning's main newspaper. There are usually a few scratchings.. but I'm pretty clueless. For someone who used to ride in the bush, I forget which end of the horse is which... :sneaky:

I mean KSnyder - His ffs??? Fine friendly smile???? Fashionably fabulous sexiness????? Funny fat smell????????? Not going there. But wear a mask if you think it's catching.

Rapunzel - Newport is also a northern beach here in Sydney and a fine yachting spot in Rhode Island, US or A (which I never quite got to, having fallen in love with Misquamicut on the way).. but I digress... Newport is yellow with diagonal black sash.

It's Shocking. I am profoundly shocked.

Also, I am deeply embarrassed by the result...

(AussiePam lowers her eyes and tries to look totally innocent, absolutely sincere and deeply embarrassed)

Really - I am not now, nor ever have been a member of any insider trading organisation. Nor are the jockeys that allegedly are seen lurking in my garden whispering anything other than sweet nothings in my blushing ears....

The fact I won my own sweep is purely and completely coincidental :sneaky:

-----

Congratulations to the clueless losers who got beaten by my amazing and clearly superior steed. And better luck next time you bozos!! Hic... :D

KSnyder has done a marvellous job keeping tally of the race - and I hope he ran a book on the side and scored. Anyway he gets a special award. He may choose a Forum Garden lady to send him appropriate cyber flowers.

Shazzoom - Not bad. And some FG bloke of your choice should be rewarding you soon... with a music video expressing his deep regard.

Floppy - third. OK you get to select some devastatingly handsome FG gentleman to choose you a limerick. Or even pen it himself.

And sorry Kathy, fourth place just won't cut it. You've been let down by an Irishman!!! Sure and may the leprechauns ride that misbegotten aughisce right outta the shamocks and into the Atlantic waves. Begorrah. (I'll save you some of my winnings).

Last place - Warringah.. which led the field till close to the finish then evidently stopped to smell the roses.. G#Gill - choose which male FGer can post for you an emoticon.

Now - who shall I have prepare for me a cyber feast??????????... Deeeeep thought.... Can any of the blokes in here cook? Do any of the blokes in here know how to Google awesome gourmet food and post the result, hotly steaming (where appropriate) but not hotly linked of course.... I'm starving...

Oh good - the mods have chewed up the troll folk who pooed in this thread. ! I think they should win a whole bunch of emoticons and have a limerick dedicated to them as well... um..

It's against all the horse racing odds

I'm glad that they've eaten the sods

Uncovered's less dashin

In Melbourne Cup fashion

But we takes off our hats to the mods

And you got Kibbutz in this cyber sweep - at no actual cost !! - and I got it in the work sweep - and that was no bloody good either.

Ah well - let me pour you a glass of cold water. Still sweltering here, and I need to counteract the champers.. grin. The moon is full too, and I just evicted a large huntsman spider who'd worked very hard to get up to my third floor balcony. At least I think he was a huntsman.
