There is something I need from Ohio actually Kev.

My family have been trying to trace a 'Frank Devatore' since WW2. He was an American Airman who was based here and used to take my Mother to the saturday night dance Hall while my Father was away in the Air Force.

Here in Dayton we have an Air Force base that was quite active during World War II. Do you know where he might have been based or lived in Ohio?

My family has been trying since the war and we have tried everything including the Red Cross. Truth is, he is probably dead by now. My mother always wanted to find him but since she died and all our efforts failed, we have almost drawn a line under It. He was based at an airfield in West Sussex and used to drink in my Grandmothers pub during the war. It was called 'The Cricketeers then and was the only pub for miles. All the US and Canadian Airmen used the pub and my family used to do very well Indeed from all the goodies from the base. Coffee, petrol, nylons etc etc. But then, the base did very well from my grandfathers cellar of beer and spirits :wah:

When my parents were alive, they kept in touch with many of the US airmen but they lost Frank who came from Ohio. My mother would have loved to have traced him. he would escort her to the village hall where they had their saturday night dances to a band who played 'Glen Miller' music.

My sister and elsest brother were born here.

Well, my lovely, I'm not sure how I can be of much help to you but I will try! :yh_wink

Devatore is a very uncommon name from my observances. Unless there might be a much more popular variation of the spelling!

He was 22 yrs old in 1943, so he would be... um...very old :wah:

My father was away with the British Airforce and this Frank would rock my older sister to sleep in the pub when she was a newborn baby. He'd sing her songs so my sister was very keen to trace him also. Sadly, my sister has since died of breast cancer. I may well have spelt his name wrong so will check with my eldest brother who did most of the searching and get back to you on that. Thanks for your Interest :-6
