Seems for some reason every now and then we get old past members who have been banned just dying to come back into the Garden.

Bless our mods for quickly identifying them, as well I heard rumor Spot can "spot" a bot from afar. Ahahahahaha:yh_rotfl

Unfortunately, a lot of spammers join FG and post an intro, and the little tykes have an advert in their signature! Some just add a post on an existing thread. It is a bit of a give-away when they sign in with an odd nickname like pur67kxp, or Brmlx888 instead of JackieChan or BillyKidd etc, then the mods take a closer look and check things out. Others unashamedly put a link to a company website. FG wouldn't mind if these people paid the going rate for advertising, but the buggers try for a freebie. Just not on ! Other people try to return to FG having been banned for life some time before. They try to have a different nickname to disguise who they were in the past, but somebody will recognise who they really are, then it's goodbye once again.

Some do manage to sneak in undetected, but they do get discovered after a while.

This thread was started due to an influx of people joining up purposely to advertise, they all got locked out fairly quickly as it's against our rules, or they are returning members who have previously been banned and shouldn't be here anyway!

It does help to allay suspicion, if a new member should put a little bit of 'about myself' and the country from which they are writing from. Most of the spammers put no info at all in their profiles, so of course moderators will keep an eye on them.

It's not a case of 'Big Brother', it's just a case of trying to keep Forum Garden from becoming a free-for-all for people trying to gain free advertising space, which is not being fair to those who do pay for advertising space, don't you think?

I think that the bots that are sent out to spam whatever and wherever they can have found a way of deciphering the wavy letters in the registration process.

Where we were seeing one or two a week previously we're now seeing five or six a night - sole reason they exist is to advertise whatever garbage their creator sells.

It is the existing Captcha that they appear to be getting round - either that or they're using real people in place of the 'bots nowadays.
