I find it quite strange that somebody would go to the bother of registering, then never bother posting....ever, even to say hello.

What was it, that was on their mind so much that they had to join and tell us. Or respond to that post that riled them , then.........nothing......... bugger all, not a sausage.

Unfortunately since they dont post....we'll never know

Yes funny I was thinking that today too while welcoming a few newbies. Pity really I hope they don't see us as too much of a closed group and understand we love new folks.

I always wondered about this too, Arnold. It's one of the reasons I don't respond in intro threads unless I see the new member has several posts. Even then, lots of times they don't come back. I think we scare them.... :yh_eyebro

Hey Far...when a new member joins up and their first post is about "How to become a millionaire in 2 days" I tend to disregard them, too. So feel free to keep that shotgun locked and loaded. Spammers beware!!! :yh_rotfl

When a newbie first introduces themselves (spammers excluded) it would be encouraging to get a lot of replies......:) Imagine someone plucking up courage to send in their first post and has it ignored......:-1 I´m quite sure I wouldn´t come back a second time.

Some of us are friendlier than others--no doubt about it. That's life. Sometimes I feel nobody listens/cares and other times I am in the heat of the discussion! If a person felt ignored and left I would say they didn't give enough time. There are times when I know nobody cares what I have to say....but who the hell cares?!!! LOL Truth is there are some really neat people here and I love it here. I think some people need to be babied--want replies right away...etc... in that case I believe you would call that "high maintenance"!!!!!! lol

I guess I don't see the need for "plucking up the courage" to join a forum. That's probably just me, and maybe others would have a problem jumping in, I just don't get it.

Noobs who post an intro and disappear waste their own time. I'm not going to waste mine by replying to someone who's made one post and may or may not be back. When they've proven their interest and willingness to participate and contribute, then I'll say howdy. Sorry, but they're coming into an established group, and while we're very welcoming, it's up to the new member to prove themselves. I'm not asking for 100 posts before I say hello, but 5 or 6 isn't too much to ask, IMO.

I agree with every word you say,.... I also love it here and everybody in here, and yes sometimes we post and nothing comes of it, but who cares not me.

I was thinking more of someone new who doesn´t know anyone yet or maybe its someones first forum like it was for me, if I hadn´t got so many welcoming replies then maybe I wouldn´t have stayed. :)

We were all newbies once, though, so why didn't WE get scared away

after one post?

I was so ignorant I didn't even introduce myself in the intro forum!! Just

jumped right in and started posting.

I find myself not posting in the intro threads since a lot of times LC has

posted, and I think seeing the cop car AND a German Shepherd Dog

right off the bat would REALLY scare them off!!! (Is this place for law

enforcement only? I'm outta here!)

My opinion ?.... in FG you have choices .... stick with the soft stuff....join in with the heavy stuff...do a bit of both .... don't take offence and if you do don't simmer...get it off your chest either publicly or PM.

If you've bothered to join up, then stick around and get to know people. I was a 'lurker' like many others for the first few days and didn't post until I could get into something I was comfortable with. Once I'd dabbled my toes in the water...I went straight for the deep end !

An observation...some of you guys are really 'close' and maybe some people feel it's hard to barge their way in...maybe they feel they are intruding or perhaps not able to join in some of the more intellectual debates....they should explore more. It would be interesting to know where the '1 post people' come from....and their age....now I'm getting curious. Oh well...it's like any club I suppose....If it doesn't suit, you don't come back. I think every one here is pretty welcoming ....carry on the good work.:-4

Joining a new place can be intimidating, sharing something personal might make some feel vulnerable later. Some might be taking a break from another forum that they have strong ties to, who knows could be anything.

I didn't do an intro either, but so many of you picked up that I was new and made me feel very welcome. I also think that if your not a computer addict as some of us are, you probably wouldn't easily or quickly feel part of the group as your not on line so often, therefore can't keep up with whats going on. The more you post, the more you read the posts the quicker you get to know who's who and feel comfortable with posting

:) Thanks for making me feel comfortable as I sometimes used to get bored being home studying all day on my own, now I have lots of people to chat with. Don't get much study done though.

Thanks, as for the Kangaroos we're over run by them, the're all over the golf course and the roads in the evenings. The're not very cuddly though so you probably wouldn't like them.

I'm going now I have to get some study done. :lips:

Ditto I think Agnas left for good (rumor has it) baby girl same she had a life change. Turbo I think has very little time lately so comes in late evenings if at all (west coast person so time is always off). John8 told us he was having health issues. Spot left permanantly. Canaan was on a couple days ago. There ya go a bit of my limited knowledge. For what it is worth.

Observations by randall,

'evenin' all. It's the "wee oors" here about 58 degrees north and 1 degree east.

I don't think that I've ever been a lurker but certainly an observer and then usually jump in with two feet and to hell with the consequences.

I have been most of my adult life a prolific writer of letters to editors until more and more of them demanded that they publish your full name and address - even telephoning your house to make sure that you really are who you said to are and that you live there - on the end of THAT telephone line.

As cruises on liners become more and more common place because of lowering costs many of you will have observed that there is a sort of "Father Confessor" atmosphere onboard ships and I can assure that it was always thus.

People "think" that they will never see you in their lives again and often pour out the most intimate details of their private lives away back home.

Personally,I was always happy to listen as it harmed no one, least of all me; I kept everything to myself and no doubt it did an immense amount of good to those who came to me.

During roll play at the "Health & Safety Course" at the Blackpool and Fylde College on the west coast of England, I was taken aside and asked by one of the tutors, half my age, and asked if I had had any sort of counselling training.

He look at me with utter disbelieve when I said that I had not.

You missed your vocation. You are a natural born counsellor.

Nice to know that we are all born good at something because up to that time I was convinced that I was born to be good at nothing.

But then, I had probably been practicing it all my life unconsciously and as Richard (?) Dreyfus said in that splendid film about creating a school orchestra out of a bunch of misfits , "Life is what happens when you are preparing to do something great." Or words to that effect.

God bless.
