I think people just choose to throw shoes away and buy new rather than re-sole, shoes can be found so cheap in some markets.
I only wear Clarks shoes but still bung em and buy new.

I was quite hopeful that lately people have been embracing the recycling concept, i mean us girls have a hard enough time finding comfy shoes so when you have a pair you'd think they'd want to keep them.
The three cobblers i have gone to have been such lovely people, done the job all their life, sigh, yet another dying trade.

I have a great cobbler right across the street from me. Sure he doesn't do as many shoes as he use but he does belt, luggage, and purse repairs to offset his business. :-6

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.
WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

Shoes last me a long time because I can't walk as much as I once did. In better days I found Wellington boots to be the most comfortable footwear. I had black ones and brown ones so I could wear them all the time.
Dad told me that during WW2 English pilots and aircrews wore a Wellington type boot lined with sheepskin. Whenever English airmen had to stay over at the airfield dad was stationed at, they learned to never take their boots off, even to sleep. If they did, the highly prized boots would often disappear, thanks to some thieving yank.
