A Dad took his 11 year old son & his son's young friend to a "Hooters Restaurant" for lunch as an experiment.

The dad explained his reason as follows:

"The trip to Hooters, I saw as an opportunity to see how he conducts himself around women. If he drooled and couldn't take his eyes of the waitress, then that would be an unmistakable cue to me to start preparing another birds and the bees talk. If he acted embarrassed and shy, then that would be a sign that such a pointed talk could wait a bit."

So, did the dad have a good idea, or was he way off base?

Could have taken the opportunity to teach his son that there are times in your life where you may have to take a seemingly degrading job to pay bills.

Could have taken the opportunity to explain that women routinely manipulate men simply by showing a bit of cleavage(real or not)

But - probably forgot what his 'excuse' was for going there and spent the drive home wondering what to say to the wife if the kid brought it up at the supper table.:D

By the time I was 11 I was well beyond being shy and embarrassed. I guess rural kids grow up faster than townies.

Of course his eyes would be glued to the waitresses.

or If he acted shy and embarrassed, how degrading to expose him to this.

members of my family did this for my nephew when he was 13, very distasteful in my opinion.

it adds even more distaste regarding women.

- they have enough of that later in life.

when he is 18, then he can do as he sees fit.

would parents take their 11 year old daughter to a place that had explicit male hunk servers?

I think not.

I don't see a problem.

Some people cipher well, they become engineers, some people are strong they become loggers, some have nice hooters they become Hooters girls. We all have tools we can use to get by in life, why not use them.:D

That's because you haven't had to spend years teaching your daughters that their worth is not the sum of their body parts.

If not for the fact that I had a father who actually would have taken pleasure in it, I would have hoped that after the son and friend and father started drooling and gawking at the shorts and tshirt - she turned around and it was his daughter.

Would you take your daughter to a restaurant with waiters like this?

Maybe the kids would never have thought to lear & or drool, until they saw the Father do it first! IMO, he was wrong, there will be plenty of time for that sort of stuff when both kids are older!!! :-2

I don't think of it as a bitch slap, but in today's economic problems, I would think that would be a last thing they would really want to do. I think restaraunts like that are basing on being vulgar and if it was not a last resort to work for in most of these girl's choices, I think they would happily do something else than be oogled by thirsty young pigs and burnt out old pigs. Give it a think!

I disagree. Hooters has been in business for well over 2 decades. In other words through a myriad of economic times. That waitress position is sought after because those girls make good tips. Id even go so far as to say many of them take pride in their staus as a Hooters girl. Theyre not dancing on a pole, theyre serving wings and beer.

Hooters is not sleazy, its a clean restaurant with good food and pretty girls. Their uniforms arent sleazy either. Tank top and shorts. Whats sleazy about that?

Lots of girls wear tanks and shorts out in public. Theyre all sleazy?

I disagree to disagree.

-Of course they make good tips, look at the way they're dressed? They are sleazy, tank tops and short shorts? and push-up bras?

You don't see woman on the streets look like they do.:yh_rotfl

Of course any man would love this.

I'm sure they do take pride in what they have accomplished, they strut their stuff and get high dollar tips.;)

Jeez, who doesnt feel akward in Hooters. Either youre trying hard not to look or you're drooling. Its not an age issue its a trying to be subtle issue.:)

Yeah, I agree. This is overkill. It's the "throw the kid in the deep end of the pool" method of teaching swimming. Let the kid wade around in the shallow end of the pool first.

Last time I was in the US, a friend took me to hooters, for a laugh. After all I'd heard about it, I was expecting a total den on iniquity - with sleazy naked women lapdancing and furtive blokes in grubby trench coats. Instead, I found myself in a sort of fast food chain spot, maybe a bit upmarket from some of the other fast food chains. The girls were maybe a bit more buxom than the Mackers wait staff, but fully covered girl next door types, and it was kind of ho hum. They did a good bellini though.. What's the big deal???

Agreed, but not for moral reasons. Cool jazz, or a spot of baroque music goes better with a bellini than the squawking of a bunch of juveniles.

Bressin Bronze Sculpture: "Dragonfly Girl"

Item #:

I thought you were referring to Bressin. I thought how nice that was that Hooters has fine art. I'll have to go there & check it out. I have this statue but when I looked at it, it wasn't Bellini, it was Bressin. Your mention of Bellinis made me look it up. So, now I see, it's a drink. It's also the name of a character in a book I have on my shelf.

Guffaw Zappy!!! The drink in question was a very fine peach flavoured bellini.

I can't think of too many Bellini female nudes, though he painted a few bare cherubs.. grin.

Apparently there are a couple of Hooters "restaurants" in Australia. One on the Gold Coast somewhere, and one in Parramatta, Sydney. I'd have thought they were rather unAustralian - which is probably why there are so few.
