I'm a PC...

Why does this slogan aggravate me so?

It started with little children asserting they were PCs and I thought it was just an inability to pronounce the lines correctly. Unfortunately no. We are no longer humans, we are either PCs or MACs

Sounds like a marketing campaign. I've never heard of it or seen it myself, but thats what it smells like

Yeah, it started earlier but is the main campaign for Windows 7

They're combining "I'm a PC" with "and Windows 7 was my idea."

I'm thinking and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Microsoft somehow copyright the term PC? That would be why thy are using it so much. Becoming a kind of mascot of the company.

It's not their use of PC that annoys me, it's the assertion by a human that they are one.

I think the Mac and PC ads from Apple are funny. The PC guy represents Bill Gates and the Mac guy is representing arch enemy Steve Jobs. They probably just used the terms PC and Mac as a level of indirection so they wouldn't outright get sued. :)

Though, the Windows response to the ad campaign is a little pathetic IMO. It's not funny at all. Also it really makes no sense. PC stands for Personal Computer, not the operating system or Microsoft software (what they are wanting to sell).

I'm a Pedantic Consumer.

It also bugs me when I pass a sign every day that says "Join now and assume a membership." And I keep thinking that if I can just assume a membership there is no need to join... :D

I live with one of those, Koan. Mine dies a thousand deaths when something is 'trialled' - or 'duxed' (that was the most recent). Someone duxed their class. I dislike wrong usage, but rather like the way language just continues to develop, leaving grammarians and pedants behind. :sneaky:

Added

"When departing or arriving at Circular Quay, please show your ticket"

Him indoors writhes in agony at this when riding the ferry.. It should reay departing from / arriving at - or possibly it would work with a comma after departing.

I can relate to that. When i see a sign that says door alarmed I always want to know what it's alarmed about.

On a road with a sign saying hidden dips I always wonder why anyone would want to hide tubs of salsa in the road in the first place-and then why tell everyone they've hidden them?

:wah::wah: Me too. There's a sign near here: "Humped Zebra Crossing" and I always think. "Poor thing..."
The crowd: "Yes! We are all individuals!"

Lone voice: "I'm not."

Same here. I own a HP (Hardly Performs) at home, but I use a mega-powerful Mac (Much Acclaimed Computer) at work. The Mac is a Ferrari compared to my beat-up Volkswagon PC.:D

My favourite traffic sign is "Form One Lane". I often encounter one of these early in the morning when I am the only vehicle on the road. It's stressful!!

There was a time when I had a PC, a Mac and a Linux Box all running happily at once. The arty fartys and gamesters liked the Mac. The elite program and hack fraternity liked the Linux Box and for my sins, I always preferred - and still do - the PC. Though I must add I liked it much better in the old DOS and Telnet and PuTTY days when one could mess around a bit and actually have a bit of control.
