Eleanor 1966 Mustang Coupe on eBay, also, Ford, Classic Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 10-Nov-08 22:01:05 GMT)

How much would it be worth bidding? I'm looking for a Christmas present for my daughter.

The person selling the car has only sold 15 items.

If you buy from that person, from what I'd guess the typical average of peoples reporting a %99.6 happiness rating being around 13,000 items sold(Discounting one of great proportion being conservative), I'd say you have about a snowballs chance in hell of ever seeing that car being delivered to the location of your preference after having paid for it. Something around the .08% to never.

To answer your question, without running the risk of watching you ponder the thought of flushing your money down the toilet, upon an Eleanor 1966 Mustang Coupe being in mint condition I'd say a starting bid of about $35,000 would probably be pragmatic...

But then again that's just a guess...

I'm here to prevent you from doing the equivalent of setting your money on fire after having dowsed it in a bit of Fluoroantimonic acid.

It's the value of the car as described that I'm interested in, the rules of eBay mean that I'd go to collect the car after winning the auction and eBay doesn't insist that I pay if it significantly fails to match the description. eBay would never sell any cars from private individuals otherwise.

The $35,000 is rather more than I'd expected, that's very helpful.

Oh and I forgot to mention that it being in mint condition doesn't limit such to not being original. The car has to be original in order for it to have any significant value.

But again I was just guessing...

I could be wrong about ebay I was always under the impression that ebay demanded payment without any third party predication...

There's a lot described that's not original. I wasn't expecting it to be - just sound and rust-free with a well-maintained engine.

Well I've been interested to know what the blue book value is on a 1966 Shelby Mustang that is in good condition but cannot seem to find anything relative to asking price...

If I had to guess a 1966 Eleanor(From which I'm only seeing that the "Eleanor" was only coined with the 1967 Mustang) Mustang coupe in America in good condition would run no less than $10,000...Which would be something around $5,000 GBP...

I would sincerely expect to spend no less than $5,000 GBP if I were you...I don't exactly know how American cars are revered in the UK so you may want to figure that aspect in but I think 5,000 GBP is a very accurate guess from my own opinion...

At the very least.

There is another mustang for sale at £12000 but that looks like a car dealer.

The insurance on it would be pretty steep would'nt it?

Not as bad as if she was still at school. She must be 21 by now.

I had around £5,000 in mind, if it goes for much more than that then I'll re-think.

(That's around $8,150 in US currency)

Well speaking from a US perspective $8,150 would get you a 1966 Eleanor Mustang coupe but would be far from *cherry(*Idiom* a part of something good, especially when there is not enough for everyone who wants it.)...You'd be looking at a probably descent running car and if well maintained could serve just as pertinent as your average used car in the UK but to be honest I find the older cars to be more reliable if you know how to maintain them...

Sadly, from looking at the pictures of the car you've referenced initially, in America "you'd" spend way more than $8,150 for that car...A 1966 Mustang coupe, if the body and frame is original, would sell well into the $13,000 range...

Although you may be able to get that car for that...

From the pictures it looks like a relatively nice car...Mustangs aren't my thing but it's a nice car all the same...I'd go look at it with someone auto savy and go from there...

I sincerely doubt that car would go for less than $8,150 though...

That's perfect then. I'm trying to avoid paying more than it's worth and I seem to be erring on the right side of caution. We'll see whether it reaches more than I'm looking to pay.

(That's around $8,150 in US currency)You pay way over the odds for an imported car, I bought an imported micra and the insurance was £200 more than it ought to have been and selling it on was a nightmare purely because of the imported aspect.

I had it in mind that this is one of the few cars in the world that handles like a deep-sea trawler in a broaching sea and that if she can learn to handle it she'll be able to drive anything. Besides, she'll have no problem pulling if it's properly waxed and shiny. A bit extra on the insurance is unavoidable whatever she gets if it's to have that effect.

Amphibious capability, I like that bit for when she's on holiday. Eleven tons, 40mph, Anti-Tank missile fitted as standard. What more could a girl need? You're a genius, abbs.

That my friend is a wonderful car and you must love your daughter very much.

Ive had 3 late 60's Mustangs and theyre fun cars to drive. Id rather have that than the Mazda my wife bought.

I assume theres not a buy it now price ?

Do your research and start scouring the prices over there for that car. I wouldnt venture a guess on that car there.

The beauty of those cars is that you can actually work on them yourself. Well I cant because I suck but other people can.

Good luck on your bidding. Wasn't it cars once that bid on a car on e-bay, didn't like what he saw when he got there, and he didn't have to pay for it? (just in case it is not what you think when you get there, with all the money you're making as a bookie, you can get this little gem for her) :D

At a quick glance over here the 66 Mustangs are going between 12-19 grand.

Im sure they can be found for much lower and for much higher depending on variables.

and five days still to run. I'm out of contention at this stage. I did think it would have gone down well as a surprise present though.
